Ken Allen of Performance Hobbies will carrying the MARSA4 4-channel altimeter introduced at LDRS28.

He will have a nifty powered demonstration board so you play with one yourself. If he is going to be at a launch close by to you be sure to check it out.

Info on the altimeter and other technical information available on the MARSA4 website here.

The first of several demonstration videos has been uploaded for those who will not have the opportunity to see one in person.

The first demonstrates the ease of programming deployment events. Enjoy!

It looks like a nice enough unit on their web site (can't check out YouTubes at work, so that'll have to wait until I get home). Unfortunately, several of the links on their web site are non-functional, all I was able to do was read through the manual.

Hmm, thanks for the heads-up. It all happened after the you tube link was put up. Links are fixed now.

Another demo available up. This one shows the basic altimeter health check features.

Noy that brought back some memories! My dad wanted to test out the features and hooked up 4 Ematches. He went to the pyro outputs and tested them. He clicked sure and POP! all 4 went off. Id never seen him jump so far. They were on 3 foot leads out of the way but it scared the crap out of him! I told him to read the manual first ;)

The next video that will be up will be even closer to those memories.....

Any chance you'll add burnout detect (plus x seconds) as pyro function for staging?

This looks like a GREAT new altimeter and I'm excited to try one out...

Already included. If you watch the first video Chan4 is configured exactly to what you describe.

Id like a 5th channel pleased. Configured to make breakfast ;)

Can't wait to get another one of these. They are sweet!!

Ben

Skip breakfast and use that channel for air-starts or staging while still preserving two channels for Apogee and two for the low-altitude Main....

Mine are in the mail -- can't wait to check it out -- trying to decide if we are going to fly the Apache using them at Balls.....

I can understand having redundant charges for each stage of deployment, but would it really be a good idea to have, say, both apogee charges running off the same altimeter? That would make the altimeter itself a single point of failure. That's one of the advantages of having dual altimeters, where if one goes stooopid on you, the other one will probably still function.

Religious war warning.

I started another thread in the Electronics forum to discuss this very interesting question.:)

New video, coolest yet. Demo of match continuity and resistance testing and output current. Last video for a while. Enjoy.

So, what type of paint should I use on rockets with these altimeters? New or old Krylon?

:bangpan:

John
Does the operation of the device at any point require the use of toothpicks? :dark:
