What do I do with this rocket?

Looong story short...Got this rocket from a friend under the condition that it flies at some point. It is partially built. I can't decide what to do with it. I didn't know if I should put this in the HPR or MPR forums because I have no idea what I am going to do with it.

The BT is about 12" long and 2.5" diameter. The MMT is 29mm with I think 1/8" ply for the fins. I could be talked into extending the BT and inserting an ebay or should I just leave it as is? Maybe there is something else...

Ideas?

Add appropriate nose weight and have at it. It looks great as is!

The grain on the wood looks to be in the wrong direction, at least from what I saw.

If it really is ply, it may be alright with the surface grain parallel to the body tube axis. If It's Light Poplar Ply, that's usually 3 plies. Then the grain direction on the surfaces is important.

If it's birch aircraft plywood, then it might be 5 plies and much denser, so the surface layer grain is not quite as important.

As for flight, I'd see if someone could sim it and see how much nose weight you'd need to get it stable. I'd volunteer if I had functioning Rock Sim. My trial period ran out.

Looks pretty cool But, I would suggest an extension on the main tube so you can actually pack some recovery gear in there! Send me some dimensions and I can make a go at working up a RS file for it...

Naw, that goes up into the NC and doubles as ballast! Fly it as is!

I'd like to see the fin measurements...

Okay...fly it as is seems to be the consensus. Later today I will probably put together a RS file for it and see what I can do with it and post the file here. As far as the fins it is a 5-ply aircraft birch so I am not worried about the grain direction. The bottom of the NC is already cut out so unless I use a 29/360 or a Pro29 6gXL I don't think space for chutes will be an issue. Doesn't this look like something PemTech would make?

Here's the RockSim file. Without it being dual deploy I don't see flying anything much bigger than a full F or a partial G. 2500' AGL is a bit hard to see for a bird of this size. As for a name I picked, "Captain Andy's Vanguard of Destruction."

Gotta love that name!:roll: Flies nicely on a G76G-10 to 2500 feet! But the G78G-10 has a much gentler deployment speed..
