I will be flying this motor at nerrf in my pml tethys. Its a 9 sec burn and fits in the 54/2560 case

has anyone flown it? just wondering what alt to expect. I have consistently gotten 5800' on the k185 and 6800' on the k550 and 8800' on the k700
there dosent seem to be any info on the k375nw I know its new and uncertified but I was hoping someone could help me out.

anyways my tethys is

3.9 diam
70" long
3 fin design
auto paint and clear finish
7 lbs. without motor

thanks, bob

Is this a demo motor? What is the formulation?

AT already has a long burn in the 54/2560 case, the K270W. Are you sure its for the 2560 and not the 2800?

It is a K375NW. The burn time isn't 9 seconds it's more around 6 seconds. The bottom grain is WARP-9 and the other grains are a slow White Lightning. You're going to want to epoxy in the WARP-9 grain into the liner. Other wise the motor could CATO on you. One was flown last weekend at Aeronauts in a Concept 54 to 17K and another one flown in a 4" rocket with a Hawk Mountain Aluminum fin can to 7K. The reload for the 54/2560 with a burn time around 9 seconds is the K270W.

EDIT: @madmax.
Yes it is a demo motor.

The formulation is a booster grain of Warp-9 plus 5 grains of slow White Lightning on top.

It is for the 54/2560. The only reload for the 54/2800 is the K1050W.

Hope this info helps.

thanks Aaron, do you know what those rockets wieghed in at? I dont want to exceed our 12k waiver

thanks, bob

yikes:y: i could be looking at some serious altitude with my 7 lb rocket

Hi Bob

That 4" fiberglass rocket the Aaron mentions is my "Thunderbolt". It weighed ~18.3 lbs loaded with the K375NW. Apogee was 7660' It was a terrific flight and a great motor.

I'd say you'll get about the same altitude, maybe a bit more, as the K700 that you have already flown. I haven't flown a K700 in my bird, so can't make a direct comparison. The K375 has a bit less total impulse (2313NS vs 2400NS according to the AT specs), but a longer burn which is better for altitude.

I'll post the flight data later tonight.

Kevin.

Here's the flight data - acceleration, speed and altitude for my K375NW flight last weekend (Aeronaut 2009 at Black Rock)

The K375 has about 300 lbs of thrust for .6 second and drops quickly to 80-90 lbs for another 4+ seconds. The boost-sustain profile can be clearly seen in the data, and was also noticeable in the flight. It jumped off the pad (20Gs) and then went into 'cruise' mode at ~4Gs for the rest of the burn.

Many thanks to Aerotech for the demo motor and to Aaron for all his assistance.

this info was what I was hoping for! you guys are great thanks

Im a little worried that the warp 9 will rip apart my quantum tubing. The rocket has cheated death a few times esp with that k700:bangbang:

kevins rocket pulled 20gs and it wieghs 18+ on the pad mine will 12lbs tops.

Titan - you should be fine. Quantum can take more than many people give it credit for.

I've flown
  • G339
  • H669
  • H999
  • I1299
  • J1999
All in Quantum tube and never had an airframe failure.

Well the j1999 did, but that was from a bunker buster recovery after the J1999 blew the rear closure off right after liftoff. The

Quantum is fine, All the people who say it belongs in the ground with you know what flowing through it dont even fly high power.

Ive flown it past Mach many times, and many hard landings with nothing more than a scratch.

Well, it also gets somewhat of a bad rep because most PML quantum based rockets can't take mach if built stock. That has nothing to do with the tubing though - it's usually because the thin G10 fins flutter fairly easily on most PML kits.

thanks for your support guys! I really want to fly this motor in my tethys so Im leaning towards it. The back up plan is I fly the k375nw in my 5.5 hojo and the k700 in the tethys.

I will have some pics for you guys wish me luck,

bob

what a great flight it was!

It ripped off the pad and cruised to 9405'

thanks to Dan Michaels and Aerotech for the demo load.

Im hoping someone has a pic they can send me.

dan did take pics but with his film camera

thanks for all the help guys.

Good Luck. Remember to epoxy in the aft WARP-9 grain.

So, the warp 9 grain goes in the bottom - where does the igniter go. We always light motors at the top to guarantee that everything lights. Since the whole purpose of the warp 9 grain is to get enough speed off the rod for straight flight I guess it must all light pretty quickly and come up to pressure all at once.

Interesting, I'd have thought the warp 9 woulda gone in the top.

You stick the igniter all the way up to the top. The White Lightning and Warp-9 burn together. The motor burns really nicely. I'm hoping to fly one next month.

The K270W is another awesome motor. I flew one in my Firestorm 54 clone to 12,903 feet at XPRS 2007. Also some guy flew one in a PML Endeavour to 8600 feet.

sweet, How much did your 54 clone wiegh in at on the pad?:pop:

thanks, bob

We're tweaking the design a bit to make it a little more "user friendly". Karl and I hope to bring a few to XPRS.
