My 9/16 tubular nylon got moderately burnt in several spots during last flight, and now I am wondering whether I should reuse it. My question is: how singed is too singed?

That's your call, and why I don't usually use TN in places that will experience heat. I've seen 1/2" nylon strap continue to hold a load when 2/3 of it is missing. :y:

Would I trust it? No way.

Minor charring, it should be fine. I can't really describe what I'd view as "minor charring," though. You're better of entirely protecting nylon from heat in the first place.

Just replace it - Tubular nylon is a lot cheaper than a rocket.

I got tired of singed nylon and switched to kevlar and have never looked back.

I've had fellow club members refer to TN as 'single-use shock cord'. After a couple of separation failures, I'm inclined to agree. What I did was buy a spool of the stuff on ebay. That makes me less reluctant to change it out. I don't remember what I paid for the spool, but *certainly* less than the cost to replace a J-powered rocket that separates...<g>
