Amraam 2 ?

I am building an Amraam 2. Is this a good model for level 1 certification?

I usually launch mine on G motors. If you are going to launch it on an H be prepared for a nice long walk.

It'll work, but it's a bit small. As long as you don't mind a bit of a walk, and have a decent field (it'll go pretty high), it should be fine.

I used a AMRAAM 2 for my first Lvl 1 attempt and it worked fine (H128). I ended up having some deployment issues (did not add enough BP) and did not get it. It will hit around 2500' if I remember correctly.

My Amraam 2 has about 60+ flights and is still going strong! I have also flown all of the 29/180 and 29/240 H's in it. I have had it land anywhere from 5 feet from the pad to about 3/4 miles away when flying H motors. Doing your level 1 with the Amraam on a H128W wouldn't be that unreasonable, although it might go higher than some people would want their cert flight to go.

I used an Amraam 2 for my level 1 cert on an H123R down at the MDRA sod farm. Beautiful flight. It does go high though. But i've flown it on every H that could fit in the rocket with no problems. I only lost it after flying an H Green Mohave motor in it (larger 29mm H motor) at a small field.

IMHO, DO NOT BUY the Amraam 2!!!! Save your money.

Buy the Amraam 3!!!!

It flies beautifully on H123R and H128Ws (maybe 1000 feet), and can fly all the way up to 54mm K's. I've also flown it on every warp motor up to an I1299 so far. I plan on flying it next with a 54mm J1999 Warp-9.

Also, the Amraam 3 is the PERFECT rocket for converting to dual deployment. It has a lot of body tube which you simply make a single cut and make a small altimeter bay in it.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. I am actually in the middle of my Amraam 2 build. I bought it for g motors, but was curious if I could do a level 1 cert with it. I am in no rush to get my cert so I will probably choose a different model for my L1 flight. Maybe an Amraam 3.

John the Amraam 2 is a great kit. It was my first hpr rocket i built in 2003. I have flown it on everything from SU F25's to 29/240 H220T. I have at least 20-30 flights on it. I got a bonus delay on a G80 last year and ended up with a small core sample but it will be back. I believe last time i flew it on an H220 the altimeter read out was in the 3100 foot range. I often fly my tracker in it to make things quicker but flew it for the 1st 4-5 years of its life without one and always got it back, 3k is not quite out of visual range so always saw it come down. So yes I would say it would work beautifully for your level one cert.

It's funny that you said that since I ended up losing the AMRAAM 2 during my cert flight (it was found a year later, repaired and flies great) and bought an AMRAAM 3 that I used for my succesful Lvl 1 flight. I have since converted it to DD. I probably have 15 flights on it right now.
