Last week, I placed an order with Semroc that turned out to be undeliverable because of the shipping address I gave them. Once I found that out through the tracking info provided by stamps.com on Thursday of this week, I e-mailed Sheryl at Semroc right away to let her know about the problem.

This time, I gave her my home address instead of my office address, apologized profusely, and offered to pay any extra shipping/handling/aggravation charges. She said it was okay and that they'd get the original shipment back sooner or later, but meanwhile she'd send me a replacement order.

It came today, just *two days* after I let her know there was a shipping problem (that was my fault) with the original shipment. No extra charges, no nothing.

My hat is off yet again to the incredible team at Semroc!

If only I could think of an appropriate way to show my appreciation.

Sounds like a good excuse to place another order ;).

Heck, I've wound up placing 2-3 orders just in the last week, stupidly forgetting to order some part or another, and even emailed a "special request" a little after midnight this morning to learn it was run this afternoon (custom part).

I realized after I got the order on Saturday that I'd ordered 13 mm, 18 mm, and 24 mm motor tubes and mini, standard, and long motor clips, but forgot to order any 13 mm, 18 mm, or 24 mm thrust rings to go with them. So believe me, I hear what you're saying.

And of course even if I build all of those motor mounts (20 in all), I have *very* few body tubes in which to use them.

Don't they, though! They seem to have a real habit of doing that. Something very magical seems to be happening just a few miles east of Raleigh, NC. ;)

BAH! Thrust rings are evil and give your rockets gout and low self esteem.
I always thought it was not such a good idea to limit motor length, just in case something new came out. Then AT brings out their 24/60 (24/95mm) RMS case, which can be used in any of our kits or my personal 24mm birds, since none have thrust rings.

I also give SEMROC kudos for service, even on larger parts orders everything is right, and shipping is lightening fast. They are good folks.

Now I have a serious question for all.....
Am I imaging it or are the Estes D and E motors tapered to a larger diameter at the nozzle end? WHen inserting one of these motors I find it difficult if not impossible to push it too far up the motor tube.
Matter of fact, I flew a couple of rockets at ST2009 without tape thrust rings, relying on the seemingly tapered case to hold it in place during thrust. But tape was used to retain the empty cases, so that no one would be conked on the head at ejection.

Layne,

I was wondering that myself, I was using a spent estes case when painting my ACME Spitfire, (A 1/2" dowel shoved into a spent 18mm shoved into a spent 24mm) the nozzle end going in to the rocket and it didn't fit so well. Also I've noticed that the last 1/2" or so of inserting a 24mm in a rocket gets really tight lately. Might have to break the calipers out when I get home and do some checking.

ps good luck on the hand recovery

I've noticed that my expended 18mm and 13mm casings seem to be a hair thicker at the nozzle end... I assumed it had to do with however they get the nozzle in there in the first place (though I have no idea how that is done).

I think that Mabel's hydraulic press caused the case to bulge slightly when it presses in the BP.

Well, you just did show your appreciation. :)

I'll quickly add to it. On Friday, July 10th (after 17:30 PDT) I sent a quick note to Semroc to ask about the Launch Missile. I've been a subscriber since day one and I registered to get one. Anyway, I got a note from them "From: Semroc Sales [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: July 11, 2009 3:32 AM"

O.K. so that is 06:32 EDT on Saturday. Sheryl mailed it that day and I got it at my mail drop in Point Roberts, WA on Monday the 13th! That seems impossible. What a company. I'll put an order together soon to show my appreciation.

Semroc really kicks butt!

You know, they don't like to talk about this, but Carl and Sheryl DO have a fully functional Transporter that they keep in a nondescript-looking shed out back, behind the plant. At the far end of the vast employee parking lot is a Stargate, as well. And there is a wormhole in the basement of their Gamma Quadrant Corporate Headquarters.
