has anyone used a h180 in a loc fantom exl ? getting ready for first flight with dual depoy and want make sure ill have enough altitude. it weighs about 4lbs. ready to fly. any help would be appreciated

I did my L1 on the Fantom EXL. The H might be iffy. I used a Pro38 I212 smokey. I don't recall the exact altitude, but it was pretty low, under 2k.

Since then, it's gone DD on I300T, I284W, I285R, H999N, and I300T+3x Pro38 G79 airstarts.

Great rocket! Enjoy!

My best estimate suggests 1300' or so at the loaded weight you mention. So with a main deploy at 500' it should work.

My Rocket Man Sonic Chanllenger (sightly lighter) does about 1800' on an H180W,H210R, or H250G. Do like the H250G in that rocket.

I have a HiAlt45K that I used for my L1. I ground tested and then did a test flight on a G64. My sim said 600 ft. The actual altitude was 464ft. The main was set at 400 ft. It worked. Didn't have much time to fall with the drouge, but the DD worked as it was supposed to.

Set your main to a minimum height and if the motor will get you several hundred feet above that, it will work fine. You don't need DD if you're only going 1,300 ft, but it will still work.

thanks for the replys. i plan on using bigger motors like i161 or maybe a j350. but this is its maiden flight.

....or maybe a j350
Not until you are L2 or this is your L2 rocket. L1 allows only H & I motors.

Personally, I'd go with the I161 for it's maiden flight. I'd hesitate using the H simply because the altitude is rather low.

An H180 will work fine, LOW AND SLOW, but fine. set your DD for 400FT

I have a 4.0" rocket that weighs 3.3 lb loaded (max for a model rocket) and I fly it on G61w's to about 500 ft. perfect croud WOOOW'er at a model rocket launch.

level 2 cert flight was what i was talking about for the j350.
