HAHA, congrats! It's nice to see it starting to spread. It's truly one of the greatest beers out there, as you could tell if you were able to look back at some of my older build threads. To date the only "decal" on my L3 project (An 8" Thor) is a label from one of the 22 oz bottles.
 
Ahh yes...the Fat Tire migration has made it as far east as Naperville, Ill. I saw some in a store while visiting relatives. Won't be long and I hope to see it around here.

I had my first taste of it at Argonia one night after a tough day of flying rockets during LDRS27.

By far one of my favorite beers as well... Any word on whether FT will make it into Ohio?
 
No idea what their distribution chain is, but if it's already made it that far east, I imagine they'll continue until they hit all 48 continuous.

Anyways....

This all started by buying a couple Estes RTF Kits and E2X at the local Wally World about three years ago...

..."No really honey, I know it's kind of frivolous spending, but the kids will love this kinda stuff and learn some science from the uber-monkey...really...really...really!"...

So...

Some LPR's get flown at the local schoolyard with said to to be learn-ed offspring...

Dad's biggest and baddest...an E2X "Blue Ninja" on a D12 somethin' ends up in the WLC treeline...

...not to be recovered...

......ok...heeeeere we go...
 
After my first MPR AT Mirage build (turned really well but, no pics recovered yet..), I discovered the "Bigger/Faster/More" aspect to my interest in rocketry.

...The delivery man shows up Thursday with my PML Endeavour Kit from a late Monday night web order...
 
Congrats on the Find. I remember when you couldn't get Coors products East of the Mississippi.
 
...Well...Hmmmm...Apparently I wasn't as smart as I thought I was regarding external fillets back then...

Then, to top things off, I knocked the rocket over and chipped the tip off an aft G-10 fin...

Time for some more "Bigger/Faster/More"...Off to PML"s webstore again!

A quick side note on the screwed up rocket pictured above:

About a year later, I dusted it off, took my new sander to the fillets, did some choppin' on the aft fins, popped a 5:1 Glass Ogive on it, called it
...Crapien One...
and flew it on an I245 Mojave Green for a successful L1 flight at NSL '09.......

...and a great flight it was! You should be getting your new card in the mail soon; TRA HQ is pretty quick and your papers were sent in shortly after NSL.

I think Dave Seer from WOOSH took the photos.

Now that flat tire stuff; I'd think you'd be more into the best Dairyland beer, Spotted Cow. Now that dere's some good shtuff!

I finally had a Fat Tire last night for my first time (they've only been here about two months). I wasn't that impressed. I like Spotted Cow, but my backup was another fine New Glarus product, Stone Soup. Excellent stuff.

Yessir. I enjoy many a New Glarus product. They make beers I don't like, but then again I don't enjoy those types regardless of who brews them. Nice little place to visit if you're in the neighborhood too.

I'll keep my eye out for some that Spotted Cow...Hope nobody across the Pacific hears about this fine beverage, they have enough issues with U.S. beef! :roll:

Stone Soup sounds good too. Maybe in a nice chilled bowl!

And thanx to you too Dave if you're reading this, I don't think I could have taken legible flight shot of the GoodYear Blimp that day...
 
Sooooo, here comes the next prompt delivery from PML.

-Another 4x36" pre-slotted Endeavour tube
-A new set of Endeavour fins
-Two 4x18" tubes (all QT)
-Another phenonlic coupler
-An Extended 54/38mm Quick Switch Motor Mount setup
-Stack o' Centering Rings and Bulkheads
-A 4"~2" transition/tailcone
-Large linear rail guides
-And last but not least, A HAMR retention hardware set

First thing I did was scuff the crap out of the whole exterior of the 54mm motor mount tube (MMT), the whole inside surface MMT length of the Quantum Tube and the exterior surfaces of the 38mm adaptor tube where the quick switch parts get adheared.

Very important if you're not familiar with Quantum Tubing: You really want to rough this stuff up before you try to stick something to it, scuffing up the parts you want to stick increases the surface bonding area quite a bit.

The inside quik switch thread piece epoxied in, the forward CR TightBonded on.

Same for the 38mm adaptor behind it.

The forward end was masked off to prevent glue/epoxy/foam contamination to the inside of the MMT during the build process. (but that changes later on)

The mid-fin CR is drilled out to accept a foam pour after the forward fins are internally filleted.

Some epoxy was the injected 16" or so up the body tube to adhere the forward centering ring to the BT. The mid fin CR and tail cone were snugged into place for alignment while the front end cured up (but NOT glued in at this point).

Very important to keep your motor retention hardware geometry in mind before you get to this point.

-I decided at the time with the MMT all strapped in, that I should dump a mondo layer of epoxy down onto the top side of the masked MMT. If you think that's overkill, wail 'till you see what I do later...No wonder this rocket weighs so much....Guess I'll just need a bigger motor for this L2 attempt. ;)-

Here's a really trippy photo of the afore mentioned "Tub o' Epoxy"...The big purple "doughnut" is actually a reflection off the inside of the QTof the top of MMT masking job. [EDIT] Oddly enough, the only object in this photo that is actually purple, is the masking tape on top of the 2" MMT...Some kinda quantum para-optic- para-photon quantum wave guide somethin' PML thing...At any rate, methinks there's more to this PML tubing than the obvious...

Time for some masking and crosshatching for the fillets...

Just sanding the external fillet area didn't seem overkill enough to me so I scribed in some crosshatches with a razor blade to create a little extra real estate for the fillets to bite into.

Hey, while we're at it, let's whack the aft fins a bit before we stick 'em on!

-(A) This should help prevent some fin damage upon recovery...
-(B) Sure looks a lot cooler...in my opinion anyway...
