I figure this is a pretty easy # to calculate; how many active, dues-paying NAR and TRA members who are classified as Level 1, 2 and/or 3?

Do the Assn's release those #s? I couldn't find it on the websites.

Just curious to know how big this hobby is...and seeing how certification & active membership are requirements for HP, there really isn't that much gray area...the # should be easy to derive & be accurate.

I don't know about NAR, but Tripoli publishes a list by Tripoli number.

I can't find it right now, but I saw somewhere where the NAR said that it has 2100 HPR flyers.

Of course, there's some overlap (I am, for example, a member of both Tripoli and NAR).

In round numbers:

TRA HP Certifications: 3,000
NAR HP Certifications: 2,000

Number of Certified High Power Flyiers:

Minimum: 3,000 = 100% dual membership
Maximum: 5,000 = 0% dual membership
Probable: 4,000 = midpoint dual membership

To put the hobby in perspective, if you had a random gathering of 1,000,000 folks in the US, only 13 would be high power certified.

Makes me feel special.

Another thing...

Last time I checked, there were only about 80-somethin' Jr. L1 Certified teenagers.

So, if all of them were spread out equally over the entire US, that wouls mean that I am the only person Jr. L1 certified in the state of Illinois, the other one would be a tiny piece. I feel lonely.
