I joined a Yahoo Group sometime back but, is it me or are they simply hard to navigate and view? It just doesn't seem user friendly.

More options have been added and they try to get you to download the yahoo toolbar.

I am a member of a bunch and NARHAMS uses them for their announcement list...and I agree completely. I don't use any evil toolbars so I don't know what they might do for you. I get real time messages for a few, including the ones I co-moderate, some just a daily digest, and a few that I don't get any regular messages.

I belong to a few some i now wish i never joined do to the constent spam. It takes forever to clear out the spam from the useable messages. others are great. then their are some that have a tone of great info but the data doest always like to work.

If you use them only as fancier e-mail lists, they're ok. The web interface has never been great.

Our club, Challenger 498, has a yahoo page as it's main 'chat and news' page, and it's ok. In fact it's basically our club webpage while the main club page is being reworked. It does have it's problems....

For some reason it doesn't like to update itself very reliably. Sometimes I'll have to go back to 'home' and then click 'new messages' before stuff will pop up. If I click on 'messages' under home to try to go to new messages directly, it will put up messages from a couple weeks before and not list anything newer, despite having JUST looked at them or posted a reply or new message... serious bugs in their routing or something

It's not particularly user friendly, kinda amateurish, and not many features, but hey it's free so I'm not griping... Ya get what ya pay for... LOL OL JR

But it must have been something. I must have made 30 or 40 attempts to get yahoo working. I used up every email account I had (and created a couple new ones just for this) and tried gobs of different passwords. I would get an email saying my membership had been approved but I could still not get any access to read forums, view files, or get much access to anything that a completely unregistered person would have been able to do.

It still kind of irks me that all sorts of info has been posted on various yahoo forums (and all sorts of info has probably expired by now and gone away forever) and it is all locked off. I have given up on yahoo, it's too much of a posterior irritation for what I get out of it.

I'm not sure I understand your problem. I belong to several (six or seven) Yahoo groups, many for rocket clubs in Ohio, and "own" one for a church groups to which I belong.

Normally, you have to request membership and the group owner/administrator has to approve you for membership. After that you should full access/rights or at least as much access as the Admin chooses to give. Some groups allow you to upload files and photos and others only allow admins or club officers to do that. It all depends on how the owner chooses to set it up.

Most of my attempts were on the scaleroc site. Don't know if it was something I did wrong (somehow not following instructions correctly? computer incompatibility? microsoft/yahoo incompatibility? I give up) but I got error messages about permission or privileges or something. Multiple times. I got too frustrated to waste more time. (And I really don't see the need to lock this stuff up in the first place.)

My experience with yahoo is probably part of the reason I really hate to see TRF go down the path where you must be a registered, logged-in approved user just to see the posted attachments.

Nothing to do with Yahoo at all, but I'd like to have the attachments available without log in. Probably a setting somewhere.

I didn't mean that the TRF operating characteristic was related to yahoo, I was just using that as an example of another irritation.

If it IS just a setting, let's find that button. I have a BFH that I am just itchin' to swing.

Obviously I didn't think you thought there was a direct association between the two, but you did say your annoyance with Yahoo is part of your annoyance with the need to be logged in to see attachments. My annoyances are totally separate. I think my brain hurts. I think I like run on sentences

There are still a couple possibilities. Could be you're on a network Yahoo doesn't like such as gmail or others that have reputation as spam sources. I know you tried multiple emails addresses to that probably isn't it. Still, perhaps somebody was a bad boy and was caught spamming Yahoo from your ISP and got your whole ISP blacklisted. It's been known to happen. Otherwise I'm not sure. Some of the more advanced network guys might have a better idea. I can be a fairly advanced user but don't care to get too involved in provider end if I can avoid it.

Only now am I looking to learn HTML to assist in the development of our church websites. Not that I can't, its just one more thing to waste my time on...
