Anyone used the Preval spray system? I have one that's been sitting unused for a long time, I think it came with my kitchen cabinets or something. What kind of paints work well with it, if any? I'm not sure what I even want to use it for but it seems like I ought to be able to come up with something.

I'm guessing that you need to do a good job cleaning out the nozzle afterwards, if you intend to switch between different paint colors and/or types (or buy a bunch of nozzles and devote one to each paint).

For those unfamiliar: https://www.amazon.com/Preval-0225-2-Pack/dp/B00CW809ZO/

Used 'em several times with several different paints, followed all the online "tips and tricks".

Garbage. Money better spent on an airbrush

They are no better or worse than spray cans, they just allow you to use the product of choice in it.

I agree, but spray cans are lousy these days. I used one back in the Freon days. before I bought an airbrush. Clean-up is easier than the airbrush. There was another similar thread with a spray unit that you could pump up using bicycle pump. I would look into that one.

I only use it for primer that came from a bad can, e.g., clogged or no propellant. It gets sanded down anyways.

Since I just had a Rusto 2x can clog just before I was done using it, I'm a bit tempted to decant it into the Preval and give it a whirl. I'm not enthusiastic about cutting open the paint can, but might just do it.

I just punctured the top of the can with a tungsten scribe. Waited till it vented, outside, and the drilled a larger hole to pour the contents into the jar for the sprayer. You have to wait until the gasses boil off to close it up.

What I've done disposing of used up cans that are still pressurized should probably also do well here. What I've done does not need involve abusing an expensive tungsten scribe, as a large nail (10 or 12 d) is sufficient. I turn the can bottom end up, hold the nail against the can and under a cloth or something, then smack the nail through. Leave the nail in place for a slow vent, or pull it out to get the action over with.

It doesnt matter which end gets punctured as long as the liquida are at the other end.....

Agreed. The reason I do it the way that I do is that the nail doesn't tend to run away when it's in the bottom of the dome, and the can doesn't tent to tip over as I've had them do when the nail rests in the lip at the edge of the other end.

The paint that is in the average Rusto can- how long will it last if you pour it into a jar and screw a cap on? I've thought about doing the same thing so I could use the paint in a small spray gun but wondered if it was worth the trouble.

I’ve only had it in the Prevail jar for only a couple of weeks. I usually use it as soon as possible. I only cap it in the jar only after an hour or so, just to let it boil off. You have to do that! I warn you!

I don’t see why it shouldn’t last indefinitely in a properly sealed container.

I confess I didn’t think it took a full hour to boil off… but better safe than sorry in this instance.

I have used a Preval with nail polish and lacquer thinner. Sorry no pics but the bird is in the car after today's ROC launch. I actually had Robert DeHate from Animal Motor Works sign it. What a good guy! It has one of his pico alts in it. Retro. Time for a shower and a beer. Maybe a beer in the shower. Maybe a pic later this week.

Cap but dont seal, let it leak out that way the gases displace oxygen in the bottle.
