Went down the DC-X / UFO spaceship rabbit hole a bit further. Asked on the FB Gerry Anderson Modeling page and on the Derek Meddings page as well. Short answer: it's called a 'radio controlled space drone'. Nothing further as yet.

I've had a couple of replies on the FB groups from former Pinewood Studios employees. It's called a 'Space dumper' and Denham Orbital came up with a stage shot showing the 'descent' stage on set.

Still lookin'. Still trawlin'. Could be a fun project for the future...

Managed to get a bit more done on altimeter sled. I made a "shelf" and brace for the battery packs, and a cover to hold them in place. Yeah, stuff isn't aligned perfectly or square. This first attempt is just to get everything working. I'll make a "pretty" one later...

One thing that's increasingly aggravating is the myriad of battery connectors. There are several going by the exact same name; all are different shapes and incompatible. Here are two listed as "JST-PH". The one on the right is what comes with an Adafruit battery, the left side one is from Amazon. The connectors I also bought from Amazon do not fit the batteries from Amazon, but *do* fit the ones from Adafruit. I need two batteries for the current project. I guess what I will do is to cut off the connectors on the Amazon batteries and replace them with the Adafruit-style. This means I can't connect them directly to the charger that came with the batteries. However, they *will* fit the Adafruit charger (it's just a low-amp charger and will take a while). The alternative is to use the cut-off ends to make an adapter so I can charge them with their original charger.

Well, thanks for the heads up. I guess I'll just buy a stock of connectors and expect to change all the ones I get.

I continued to inventory my rocket motors. I need to burn some motors.
Oh, boo hoo.

Or just buy them all from Adafruit. Adafruit also sells compatible connectors. I was trying to save a few bucks, and thought I'd found a good deal.

I truly feel your pain! I have been through this with Eggtimer Products. All my old stuff RRCs and such were simple. Hook a pigtail to the PCB connectors and stick a 9v connector on the other end!

I have 100mah for the Classic with teeny tiny connectors, so that is what I used. Later of course the 2S1P 350mah pyro batteries came with XT30s...

Then the Quark was different again, and ION with the 400mah 1S LiPo again. And polarities vary, so I had to mind that and change around pins. It was (is) a nightmare. So of course I created adapters that go from this to that

And then there is my GSE. A cluster Buster and my DIY controller. (Plus an old AT Interlock). I am using a 2S2P 2200mah 35C pack for launching. It uses XT60s... and the cluster buster's battery clamps... so of course there is a clamp to XT60 cord... and the interlock controller uses banana plugs, and ARRRGGGHHH!!!! Just shoot me!
:angiefavorite:🙀

So I am in the 'process', and its a long one, of converting everything to XT30 and XT60s. One exception, the 100mah LiPo will have an adapter. Of course my old 9v stuff was EASY to hook up compared to all this. I have like 1/2 dozen different LiPo connectors. And of course the obligatory octopus (x2) charging cord. My cheap bantam charger (well it was cheap 10 years ago) does a fine job of charging/balancing. I still have an Align vs <someone else> balancing boards / cables. I forgot who won that war (sort of a VHS vs Beta thing back then).

And of course I've ruin the pads on more than one Eggtimer XXXX baord trying to remove the JST-whatever. So I have to trace traces and jumper them...

Edit: And don't forget keeping anything from shorting while using the LiPos! (I store them in a LiPo sack). And batteries always have female pins.

Launched rockets!!!
The Sumo performed well on a G128
The Cheetah delivered 2 flawless fights on an an E21 and an F58.
Best Altimeter report: 1300', 277 mph
The Superchief 2 delivered a great 2 stage flight on a D12/B6-4
The majestic gave a nominal performance on an E16-6.

The chute release performed flawlessly for all flights. No long walks.
The only malfunction was an igniter failure on Cheetah.

What is that old proverb?
Photos or it didn't happen? :D

I started my Bullet Bobby XXL. Got the retainer and first aft centering ring on the motor tube.

I also come to realize that I DIDN'T get the longer screws that I normally get for the LOC MR-1 retention. Not only for the Pink Lady, but also for my Magnum. I'll be getting those today. Plus I realized I never did the shear pin holes on the Magnum. That needs to get done too, although spring seems so far away, it sneaks up on you fast here in New England.

(Yesterday) Flew the 3" WAC Corporal again, on an H123. Also Long Wrong Silver on a C6-5. Lost the nose cone on Silver but I have several more in the assortment I bought, no big deal.

Skipped a launch yesterday to work on a rocket I was trying to finish for next weekend. Realized today that too many details and small problems remain to work through, so I'm setting that rocket aside for now and will take my time on it. Go fever is bad enough at a launch but worse in a build.

In the meantime, I'll finish prepping and repairing a few others to fly for the weekend.
