Dose anyone know more about the So Long 29mm rocket kit that Estes is suppose to be releasing in 2023? I would like to get that one to. I wish Q-Jet or AeroTech would make a booster motor because of the F15-0 and F15-8 being black powder there is such a high HAZE MAT fee you can’t afford to fly it.
A local friend and I do joint-orders from AC Supply periodically so that we usually break $100 and get free shipping. We've also done this in the past to split HAZMAT on Estes 29mm motors and plan to do so again, if/when the F15-0 ever comes back in stock.

With HAZMAT going ever higher, it probably makes sense to see if we can get a few other people in next time too. Doesn't take too many people sharing that fee before the burden becomes negligible.

Now that the B.O.S.S kit by Estes is out for grabs I think it’s “ridiculous” that people on eBay are grabbing them up and trying to selling them for more money. It’s not like its a one time deal for this kit. Everyone including myself will be ordering one and when they run out they will replenish their stock in a short time. This kit will be around for a while. What will happen over time everyone will own one and there will be an over stock issue then they will eventually go on sale. Following that sales will slow to where they will be OOP. This is quite some time away but to grab them and sell them for more money, that’s crazy. No one is going to pay more on eBay when you can get them cheeper at an wholesaler.

If you look at the B.O.S.S. as a “typical” sci-fi kit that’s the curve those kits reportedly follow - being a member of the Designer Series line might give it a bit more longevity, time will tell. As far as people taking advantage of early adopters and initial scarcity imagine how the folks who paid thousands over MSRP for a Chrysler PT Cruiser feel 😆

A short discussion about the #9722 So Long on YORF, not much concrete info but some well-informed supposition, the body tube is probably BT-52H, the parts count is probably pretty low - no motor retention for the sustainer, a couple motor blocks for the booster and sustainer, some kind of bulkhead or nose block for the payload bay, streamer recovery (no word on whether the streamers are plastic or nylon), that new version of the PNC-55BB nose cone, launch lug, fins - that should be about it. Some talk about the 29mm booster motors not having enough “oomph” but from past online discussions with Estes designer John Boren I’m sure he’s flown his prototypes with those motors many times.

You could use a QJet as a booster without modding the motor - you could use a sealed and vented booster then igniting the sustainer with electronics would be an option, especially since there’s already a payload bay intended for altimeters.

I wish I could. I’m solo with this hobby. There isn’t any rocket clubs near me anymore. The more people the better to share in the HAZMAT. I should of stayed into model railroad. I have a lot of in HO all good stuff but I put it on the back burner for now. No room for a layout. I have no idea why I went back into model rocketry.

Your location is listed as NJ? I believe there is four NAR clubs there.

There are at least 3 clubs in NJ (GSSS, CENJARS, BARC) and METRA is pretty nearby in NY.
It can be worth the expense to make the drive to a launch supported by a vendor. I saved enough in shipping and hazmat to justify driving to a couple of launches with different clubs - if that’s something that can be an option I’d suggest contacting the vendor before the launch, no point in making a long drive if they don’t have what you need.

I would just like to state for the record that the one on eBay isn't mine.
I sold all of the ones I had on Facebook for $55 shipped
However once they do go OOP I will likely be one of the first to sell them on eBay for a higher price 😆

I save my hazmat purchases for our onsite vendor. This is a great way to save money and support a vendor that supports your hobby.

I am in North West NJ 15 minutes from Easton PA
Looking like a couple of NAR clubs in your area.
PARA #520, south of Easton on highway 611 near Ottsville
Radical Rocketeers (RR) #712 on highway 46 near Independence Township.

Got my tracking #.
In order to get the free shipping, my order includes motors so it's Parcel Select shipping instead of Priority Mail.
That means by boat instead of by air.
No worries, I'm not in a rush.

Got my tracking number today, too. With my luck, it'll probably be crushed by the USPS, seems like everything that they touch coming to my house lately has been hit by a truck.

Just picked mine up off the porch on my way in after work. I must have been one of the lucky 200, I got a signed poster with mine! Alas, the catalog in the box was a 2022, had my fingers crossed for a 2023 book.
Same for me except I got the "custom crushed" version of the poster. I'll try not to whine too much... 8)

i too received my super cool new rocket and poster, and the now vintage 2022 catalog. i love the homage to the designer. money well spent. in other news that my wife couldn't care less about, i did NOT receive an Orange Bullet signed by Vern with the purchase of a roc (Nike X) on his birthday. I did receive the Nike X, though, so there's that.

i am so pleased with the rocket and poster that i've decided to get a Bill Simon haircut.

Good for you, new rockets are always cool. (Even when they are not signed by Vern Estes)
