I respectfully submit it could have been avoided upon at least 4 recent historical occasions: the Minsk Agreements, the Maidan Revolution, the Orange Revolution, and just after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since it was not avoided, Russia has invaded and can be held to account. But the failure of diplomacy, strategy and statecraft at the international level since the collapse of the Soviet Union must be part of the blame. IMHO, a great tragedy has come to Ukraine, and is coming for all of us if we are not more careful.

Avoided by who, by doing or not doing what?
The study and debate of history is best done by dispassionate and respectful historians in an academic setting. Enthusiastic partizans of a current conflict do not make the best students. I've left you some bread crumbs. Follow them if you wish.

The heat and passion of the moment has aroused some personal digs that offend me. I want to treat everybody politely and respectfully. If that cannot be reciprocal, I will make no further replies on this topic.

The way things are going for Putin, Elon Musk should be able to buy Russia at a fire sale price some time next year.

That’s a great idea! Owning the Russian troll farms and disinformation factories would be great vertical integration and synergy for Twitter.

Come again?

You were asked to elaborate on your perspective. Deflecting to call others partisans is hardly an answer. You certainly haven't left any bread crumbs to follow. If you want to start a debate, present your opinions to discuss.

You know what’s not polite or respectful? Starting a thread like this and then not giving your own thoughts on the matter.

You’ve given us “breadcrumbs”? I suppose that’s better than your usual offering of Russian propaganda.

If you think the topic can’t be discussed here, then don’t start a thread. Nobody comes here for history research assignments.

I have some thoughts about how to avoid future wars:

How to avoid war in Poland? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Romania? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Moldova? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Latvia? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Estonia? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Lithuania? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Finland? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.
How to avoid war in Taiwan? Kick Russia’s ass in Ukraine.

Ways you could have avoided the War in Ukraine:
#1) NATO could have immediately accepted Ukraine while Putin was gathering his forces. There was a 2 month window.
#2) A Black Ops team could have assassinated Putin, by having him "fall out a window".
#3) ??? Pre-emptive first strike?

That sums it up. The only way to avoid war is to make the aggressor fear the repercussions. Right now, Putin does not fear the US/NATO or what we might do to them. We are operating from the point of weakness.
