I got a national Jefferson Award

when I was much younger, I was into competitive drug-free powerlifting. When I was in CA for a meet, my coach arranged for a meeting with Joe Weider. Turned out Bill Pearl was there, and I have a copy of his book autographed for me. They arranged for me to lift in a cage on Venice Beach with Lou Ferrigno. The girls drolled over him and ignored me, even though I was doing the same weight!

Ya want pics? Here ya go. Geniece graduated with a BS in chemistry on August 8, 1981. We got married August 9, 1981. Relatives were coming for the graduation anyway, so it seemed reasonable to get married right after. :)

It was all aboveboard by that time. The college president was also a minister. He performed the ceremony.

My bride and my parents.1670203609211.png

My bride and her mother. Her male biological parent didn't come. He wasn't welcome and he knew it. Divorced June when G was 13, he paid about one-tenth of the child support he owed..... I have rather strong feelings about taking care of the ones you father. He probably knew that I'd rip him three new....orifices....if I saw him.

My daughter has Asperger's and as a father it was VERY difficult because I cared. As a toddler, guests could not look her in the eyes at the dining table otherwise she'd be inconsolable. Some didn't believe us and that ended our meals for an hour plus. Many more difficult stories.

In some respects I can understand the parents trying to live in denial... ignore the situation since it's too much to deal with.

I worked hard with her. All of her teachers and most of her counselors agreeing that I what I was doing was correct helped a lot. I love her to death, but worry about her to death.

She surprised me when she later made it into Cornell and decided to dorm there. I never dreamed of the point where she would actually be able to be on her own and...I can't believe it...have friends. Sometimes all the hard work combined with luck works out.
Congrats to both of you!

One of the things that parents have nowadays is the diagnosis. From what I've heard, High Functioning Autism/Asperger's was first diagnosed prior to WWII in what became German controlled territory, and due to the war, the translation into English was delayed for decades. By the time I was (obviously) 17, it had jumped the pond, and since then awareness has been growing. With that comes help in education and support. My folks didn't have that (or chose to ignore it in my dad's case when it first was proposed), and muddled through. I'm just fortunate to be of a level that hat they didn't institutionalize me, am able to function fairly well, and am able to work to support myself.

I owned 15 motorcycles through the years, those are some of the most interesting stories 👍

Well, some weren't motorcycles. Let's see...

Stationary motorcycle at a red light and hit by guy who was running it. Two fractured vertebra.
Had a race car dropped on my arm while we were unloading it. Radius and Ulna (both forearm bones).
First big motorcycle ride at 14 years old - Triumph Bonneville through a fence - 6 ribs.
Fastball to knee playing baseball. Patella.
Knee slider peeled off on racetrack - Patella - same one.
Hit dog on my BMW LS650 - Leg.
Run over by Volvo P1800 while I was on a pedestrian crossing. - Humerus and scapula.
Fell down wet marble stairs at a hospital - Ankle.
Dirt track riding - Wrist, forearm, three fingers.
Hit by an internal house door (hollow core) flying off the back of a ute on the freeway - 9 ribs, humerus.
The day someone moved the hay bale I was using as a braking marker during a track day on my RD400 Yamaha. I hit the catch fence, then the bike kit me - Femur, tibia, fibula, 4 ribs, lacerated liver.

Hmmm. There might be more, and obviously I can't count.

I also 'navigated' a Fiat Abarth 131 Superbrava off the side of a mountain during a rally in the snow. No injuries - driver broke both femurs.

I…uh…I think maybe you want to stay away from your sister.

When I was a toddler a very old man (90s) took my spot and got crushed to death by a car.

My mother and I were waiting for the light to change and I was tired from walking, so I rested against a light pole base at the corner of Canal and Bowery in NYC (entrance to the Manhattan bridge there, so it's very busy).

A very old man with a cane comes by and being nice, asks if he can rest too. I move over...

Next thing I know I'm on the sidewalk and it's dark. Huh? I'm under a car. I get up and a shiny black car had jumped the curb and pinned the old man against the pole...HARD. It was a pretty horrific scene, but I was more surprised than shocked. To this day the images are very vivid in my mind.

Also back then they didn't wash the blood away...the rain eventually did. The pole had a very big dent in it for quite a while after.

Thank you old man...I now enjoy every day above ground no matter how bad it gets.

My wife and I are both BARs.... and she has the bigger build pile.

I own a small piece of the original studio model of the starship Enterprise.

I did book covers for a small series of Star Trek novels published by Simon & Shuster.

I was one of the primary illustrators for the Traveller RPG in the latter half of the 80's.

I've professionally worked on Star Trek and Star Wars in various capacities (mostly RPGs)... and a few of my Star Wars vehicle designs seem to have accepted into the current canon.

My father would design his one hand launch gliders that would occasionally ride thermals into the clouds and disappear.

I have never had COVID (knock wood).
