Non Pyro Chute Release?

What altimeters or other electronics can be used with some device to achieve a dual deploy type system that does not require a pyrotechnic aspect such as through servos, non electric line cutters, etc? I would love to hear your thoughts and experiences.

There are several threads here and on YORF about hot wire chute tender/line cutter setups. I'm working on one that's smaller and lighter than anything I've seen so far. Have started gathering parts. Plan is to drive it with a Quark.

It's a bit like asking the length of a piece of string. I've personally achieved non-pyro chute deployment and main chute release with less than 100mA for both at driving voltages as low as 3V, but every different device and system will require its own individual power requirements. If you're developing the device(s), then it'd be a case of design & build it, experiment to a good confidence with reliability and measure .

That would honestly be the simplest way, but I am interested in a method that would serve as redundant dual deploy if the ejection charge failed. So something that could get the parachute out with completely reusable means.

I posted a thread a while back for deployment without 4F powder and I found that drones are solving this with spring loaded cannons.

Not as cost effective as BP but smokeless and an option.

Cool. While the upfront cost would be high it seems like there would be little additional cost. I wonder what it would take to make it lighter. Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, the only Eggtimer altimeters that do support servos are the Classic, Proton, Quantum, and possibly the new Quasar.
Check with Cris about this.
