Yes, well, I am getting tired of TV weathermen talking about how *every* storm is "The storm of the century". Yes, dumbass, that's the way it is going to go now as every storm has more energy than the previous storm.
news channels across the country use the title "SEVERE Weather"etc. It's all about cheap sensationalism to keep the Sheeple nervous and glued to the TV, "Breaking News"

90% of Sanibel Island is wiped out and will have to be bulldozed. It's going to take years to clean up and get rebuilt into a working community. They are letting people in now during the day to asses the damage.

Had a time share at Casa Ybel. Sold out my portion 3 months ago when I wouldn't be using it. Expected a slow encroachment from the sea. Didn't expect the island to be wiped out 3 months after the sale :(

"Meteorologists have generally defined severe weather as any aspect of the weather that poses risks to life, property or requires the intervention of authorities." - Severe weather - Wikipedia

Sanibel island was nothing more than a sandbar.

There was an article just this morning about all of the immigrant workers who have now gone into Florida to help with cleanup efforts just like they do when they come up to harvest crops or other farm work. Funny, as the governor of Florida has really been outspoken on immigrants and how he wants to Bus them all over the place.

They don't need extra hands. I've done a dozen storm fixups.

It's a ton of travel and standing around waiting for a paying job. Remember Irma? And the flooded rest homes. People were on standby willing to help. But $4000/month/person, isn't enough to pay for the service call, I guess. Which is why those slums were in trouble in the first place.

You can't help people on private property, when the property owners response is "No, go away.''

What are the homeowners waiting for?...the insurance company to provide all the labor and cleanup?

Yep. Servpro's job, I guess. Most of those are 2nd homes. The homeowners are a dozen states away.

Nobody is actually foolish enough to live on a sand bar without accounting for this weather.
