90% of Sanibel Island is wiped out and will have to be bulldozed. It's going to take years to clean up and get rebuilt into a working community. They are letting people in now during the day to asses the damage.

Had a time share at Casa Ybel. Sold out my portion 3 months ago when I wouldn't be using it. Expected a slow encroachment from the sea. Didn't expect the island to be wiped out 3 months after the sale

The local channel uses the term every day just to attract viewers.
Sanibel island was nothing more than a sandbar.
There was an article just this morning about all of the immigrant workers who have now gone into Florida to help with cleanup efforts just like they do when they come up to harvest crops or other farm work. Funny, as the governor of Florida has really been outspoken on immigrants and how he wants to Bus them all over the place.

They don't need extra hands. I've done a dozen storm fixups.
It's a ton of travel and standing around waiting for a paying job. Remember Irma? And the flooded rest homes. People were on standby willing to help. But $4000/month/person, isn't enough to pay for the service call, I guess. Which is why those slums were in trouble in the first place.

What are the homeowners waiting for?...the insurance company to provide all the labor and cleanup?

Yep. Servpro's job, I guess. Most of those are 2nd homes. The homeowners are a dozen states away.
Nobody is actually foolish enough to live on a sand bar without accounting for this weather.
