Hi All, Does anyone have a good recommendation for a range box? A tool box or fishing box would be fine and I have used a variety over the years. I am just looking for other options and I enjoy seeing what the folks here use.

Also where can I buy stands to hold rockets horizontally? I have largely used my own solutions and happy to purchase something slick if available. This is for MPR/HPR rockets.

Thanks, Alex

This is what I use and I really like it. It holds everything that I need except long cases—but I usually have those pre-loaded in my rockets before I go to a launch. I love the looks of the Milwaukee toolboxes like these, and they look pretty durable, but for the money, this Husky set is pretty good.

I fly LP/MPR and have two range boxes. One is just a plastic tool box (not a fishing tackle box) the other is just for motors and is a DEWALT Tool Organizer, TSTAK Expansion (DWST17805).

I store all my rockets vertically, using stands I made to support them via their motor mounts.

I typically don't take pictures of my range box, but I found a couple. The box is a standard plastic toolbox that I found at K-Mart, long, long ago. The bottom holds the 12V Gel Cell for the launcher, launch controller, and remote start button and wire. The pull-out tray is where the clothespins, talcum powder, clip whips, pliers, emery board, and all other miscellaneous items are stored. the top has two flip open compartments that I use for storing motors, plugs, and igniters/starters. It has served me well for about 25 years now. I keep the main stash of motors and parachutes in other boxes at home, and prep the rockets before I go to a launch. The range box has everything for another flight or two on the rockets that I bring.

Actually, just about anything with a handle will work.

I use a large tackle box, and a tool box, and a cardboard box, and another tool box, and an underbed storage container for the motor tubes, and another container for the reloads, and a couple ammo cans. I could consolidate, but I've been using all of this so long, each container has it's place in the bed of the truck and I know exactly where everything is.

Etsy: 14" x 7" thin clear pine "tool box...". $30.00 delivered in 1.5 days...jeez! Man, that was FAST.

Then- scrounge around at your buddy's shop for some scrap ply to make V-end-plates with outriggers (so she don't tip) from rocket box cardboard templates ya think might work.

Cut, shape, router (oh that was fun with plywood- safety gear people and stand back!!!), stain, screw, pipe noodle/shoo-goo, use some Z clips for backers ( just in case I/someone needs some), screw eyes/small bungee (it's soft, 4oz with my trigger pull scale) /key rings to keep the rocket from slipping/blowing away and with the set up I have in the back of my rig it aint going nowhere.

Bam.

Aint huge, but it'll hold a 4" tube up top nicely for work/prep and below a 720 motor case + small goodies in the bottom for a small time Goblin-dork like me just fine.

OK for $30.00 all in, I spoze......

Edit- PS/... wrinkled table top is cuz of that sticky-back carpet protector I told ya bout in another thread. It's like Murican Xpress...don't leave home w/o it!

El-cheapo™ brand, quick-n-dirty rocket stand for not-too-heavy rockets. Use extruded foam board, not "beadboard" unless you like lots of little bits of styrofoam in your car/shop. This one is pretty old but still gets used for 3" and 4" rockets. Obviously not for heavy-duty use.

I've successfully assembled these with hot glue, but it does tend to melt the foam to some extent. Epoxy is better. Remove the plastic vapor barrier film from any surface to be glued.

I like that. Although "El-cheapo" may be relative. I've got lots of old PVC pipe and elbows around so for me, that is the El-Cheapo route rather than spending $33 on a sheet of the foam. I will have to remember that if I do happen to acquire some of that foam.

Thanks...

Nearly all of mine are PVC.

I have the Robart super stand, i added the black foam refergeration insulation tape for padding. The bottom compartments are a nice touch for holding stuff like tools an such while building. I proabley use a box with a U shape cut out of each end, an a folded towel layed across the top of box for padding as much asIMG_4266.JPEGIMG_4268.JPEG the stand.I keep my motors in a large marine box, and everything else goes in a Craftsman.

Unfortunately...I don't have lots of old PVC and elbows. Just checked, the extruded foam at the local Lowes has indeed gone up in price, it's $25 a 1" 4x8 ft sheet. Last one I bought was $18...I find it useful for so many things.

I just bought a sheet for another project and the 1" 4x8 sheet was $33 at Home Depot by me. I haven't checked Lowes, but they are usually within a few cents of each other on items like that.
