Back to attaching the Second Tube Structure.

After attaching the Second Tube Structure to the Bottom Section, I again wanted to hold the Top Section to make sure I had good alignment. Used 5-minute epoxy again, for a fast set, then went back and added 5-minute epoxy fillets.

When I am holding stuff in place, I like to listen to music to keep track of time. Today's song was "September" by Earth, Wind, & Fire.

 
I have to ask, how does one transport such a beastie?
TRANSPORT
Well, that's a good question. And I don't have an answer at the moment (other than "very carefully").

Without the nose, the overall length is 48-1/4 inches. I hope to find a container that is long enough. I am open to suggestions.

I was thinking about storage today. Because the Top Section and Bottom Section have different diameters, I don't think it would be good to lay the Nell on its side (though, you might use the cradles; or make a cradle).

What I came up with is handing it on a wall? Perhaps on the Top Section, at the engine mount?
 
Splice a couple of long cardboard boxes together. Glue in the cradles or make new ones with the kit templates to support the rocket in transport. Large bubble wrap in the spaces to cushion. Voila! Instant custom transport carrier. Very little cost.

Unfortunately, I am an engineer. Your solution is waaaayyyy too practical, cost effective, and simple for me to use. :eggnog:
 
Adding the Launch Lugs. The kit has lugs, and recommends a 48" long 3/16" launch rod.

I don't have a 3/16" launch rod that long. But, I do have a 48" long 1/4" launch rod, that I use for rocket gliders. So, I will be using some 3/8" launch lugs.

Also, I am moving the lugs closer to the centerline of the rocket, compared to the recommended position.

Got some high temp paint for the nose cone on the Bottom Section. Trying to add a little protection from the rocket exhaust.

Not sure this will help, but it makes me feel better.

Very cool build! I have flown mine twice. Weathercocked each time but recovered ok. Cracked one of the verticals on the second landing so it now has a splint on that side. I built the optional tower for it but have not painted either the pad or rocket yet.

I had a 'fortunate' failure today.

I had intended to go launch the Nell today. Was getting it ready on the launch pad (which is wrong), and I went to get some Recovery Wadding.

But, while getting the recovery wadding, the parachute came apart. The wind was 'gusting' to 5 mph.

So, I will use a different chute.
