Vern Estes' Scout is a venerable classic. The Golden Scout was issued by Semroc for the 50th aniversary with a special twist. All participants were to paint their Scouts gold and the sky was supposed to be filled with gold at a mass launch. I built mine but didn't make the trip. I had a low number and, contrary to my initial expectations, I really enjoyed it. The shape is both basic and classic but the fins are much thicker than usually seen at this scale. This lets a nice profile be sanded into them. I also have a soft spot for "old things" and enjoyed building the recreation of a rocket that goes almost back to the beginning. It uses 18mm power and tumbles back down. This is kit numbered #0987. It is new and unopened.

I am asking $25

This kit is offered for sale in an effort to liquidate my collection of kits and is being offered via cross postings on The Rocketry Forum and Ye Olde Rocket Forum. The price indicated is what I have determined by looking for evidence of similar sales but, admittedly, might reflect a poor judgement on my part. I'm just doing the best that I can. The price does NOT include shipping. Interested persons are invited to contact me via PM and I will calculate the shipping. Payment is expected by means of PayPal, Zelle or Venmo. My intention is to make shipments twice per week after confirming receipt of funds. I will try to give the most accurate descriptions I am able to provide and will happily answer any specific questions either by PM or within the post thread.

I'm trying to be fair and honor a "first come, first serve" precedence when dealing with inquiries. That involves juggling messages I see while at work at the hospital coming from both TRF and YORF. That started out easy but got more complicated as there were more and more rockets listed. I made some mistakes and for that I am sorry.

I also don't mind holding rockets as you wait for more to become available. This does help with shipping costs and nobody has been more horrified than I over the current postal rates. That said, I am going to have to change one thing. I am only going to set aside "sold" rockets. I tried it the other way and a few times I was left in the lurch when others were interested in a rocket. That was only a mild annoyance. What I cannot tolerate is the mistakes that I made in selling something that had been promised. With my faulty memory and hectic schedule, the only way to prevent this when so many rockets are up for sale (with hundreds more to come) is to strictly segregate the sold stuff from the unsold stuff. A hold with an intent to buy now gets 24 hours, barring exigent circumstances, after that, it's back on the market.

That backstory of the origin of the Estes K-1 kit, the first commercial model rocket really makes this a special kit. Dedicated hobbyist/Rocket Doctor Ken Montanye worked with Semroc to get this into Semroc's retro repro line just in time for the "Sky of Gold" mass launch/celebration at NARAM 50, though that launch/celebration was not approved/included in the schedule for the week, so Carl/Semroc changed gear and made it a mass remote/virtual celebration. Semroc set up a special web page and registration form. Anyone who bought a numbered kit (after the celebration, they retired all numbers/switched it to a regular kit) could build/fly it wherever they wanted, go online, register their number, name, date, etc. As an added bonus, anyone who registered their flight also got a hand-signed commemorative sheet from Vern and Gleda Estes. The complete registry was still on Semroc's site until Carl passed away, when there was a brief laps in domain registration and some files were lost. I don't remember how many total kits were part of this celebration, but unlike their other numbered kits that were limited to about 100, there were at least 1000-1500 individually numbered and registered kits participating in this project.

I built one of the very low numbers, posted a more detailed review of it at https://www.rocketreviews.com/semroc-astronautics-corporation-golden-scout--by-chan-stevens.html
