Does anyone have any plans or dimensions of the Javelin (the "St. Javelin" variety")

missile diameter of 127mm (5inches), wingspan of 0.38m (15inches) so each wing is 126.5mm (5inches) from edge of the missile to wingtip. Wingroot is fairly narrow but I don't see it given anywhere. I'd guess about 25mm (1inch)

I'm giving this a shot, unless I can get a better idea of the wing design.

Hi,

I built a full scale 5" diameter all fiberglass Javelin 148 back in 2009 that was a great flyer. Here's a sim pic to help with dimensions:

Here's a link to the onboard camera. Cameras came a long way since 2009, lol.

Nice video for 2009 and despite the tank surviving.

I've been thinking about making a reduced size version of the Javelin. One thing though: What are you all using for the nosecone? I was thinking a 3" diameter tube, about 28" long. Would fly on Estes E engines, Aerotech engines up to F size or so.

Ed Miribella built and tube launched a full scale TOW many years ago.
The sound and acceleration of the rocket coming out of the tube was incredible.

Very simple to fabricate that style nosecone in any diameter tube. A balloon blown up inside the tube will give the right shape and then layer light weight fiberglass cut into triangles.

Here's the fiberglass parts I used. The lower 4 fins were TTW and the upper 8 were surface mounted. Easier to let the uppers break off on a hard landing and then tack them back on for the next flight.

I have no ability nor the setup to work with fiberglass (think working in basement, wife hates fumes, no shed/detached garage I can use).

Fabricating a 3" diameter nosecone can be done with a small amount of 1 or 2 inch fiberglass tape. No real experience needed and for such a small job you could use any slower setting epoxy unless the use epoxy is also out of the question.

I could 3D Print one or provide the file for folks to do so.

Chuck, that would be useful, thank you. I'll keep it in mind should my project ever get started (have some stuff ahead of it in the queue).

If I do a mock-up, do you mind if I post it to this thread?

Not at all, Chuck. I was thinking a 3" tube, but something else is possible - I want to stick with cardboard tubes as I can't really work with fiberglass here, and while I can epoxy its weather limited as I have to do it outside.

I will see what tubing I have. I think I have 3 inch.
