Hey. New to the forum. Thought since I'm a scratch builder / designer, I'd throw out a build in progress. This is the Psionic Predator from the near start to near completion. It's my 1st design with air ducts and the only gray rocket in my fleet. It's also my 1st papering attempt so go easy on me there. I do turn most of my own nose cones on a lathe and many of my models have them. This one is no exception. It's almost done with the need of some more black in given areas and the laundry.

Nice rocket. I like the black and red swirls. I assume you designed /came up with them on your computer? How a bout a pic of the Gold one I see next to it. That looks interesting.

Thanks Scotty. You are correct in that I used comp graphics on the wraps. It is my 1st attempt. That gold rocket is my take on Soren's Rocket from Star Trek Generations. The one made by Public Missiles for the movie. Soren used it to blow up a star to redirect the NEXUS ribbon.

Sweet rockets!

As for Soren's missile, you mean he TRIED to use it to destroy the sun. He was foiled by the captains after all. ;) I always wondered how it reached the sun so quickly?

Nice stuff. You and Scotty Dog can challenge eachother as to who can build the craziest sci-fi birds.

Gary,
That transparent red over the gray came out great! It's a close to blood red as you could hope for.:kill:

You said you were going to do some more black detailing. Have you decided not to do the "roll pattern" (for lack of another term) you were considering?

I do know that I'll paint those forward fins at the nose cone black and I'm prolly going to do a roll of sorts on the aft tube. I want to see what looks good in Corel Draw sometime today and I may finish it up on that note.

really nice! Only thing I might add is a second launch lug mount to make things symmetrical, or put the upper lug in the top of the intake. The stand off really stands out.

That stand-off really jerks a knot in my neck. I really didn't want to put one there. There already is a lug inside the intake and I needed a 2nd one. That stand off was not what I wanted to do. Initially I wanted to build a cockpit of sorts to house it but it would have been cockeyed much like having your nose stuck on your cheek. I may just re-do the whole lug idea and just make 2 units to house the lugs but position them correctly and in sinc with the flow of the design. They'll be kind of large though because I have to be able clear the nose cone when I put it on the launch rod. I could also make a standoff that supports both lugs and has the appearance of yet another fin.

Whoa!!! Looks likd the gauntlet uas been layed down with a glove across the face. You girls gonna settle this at Thunder Road?

You could just drill a hole thru the nose, then give it some type of detail like it's an exhaust port or cannon turret.... that eliminates the stand off all together.

LW, I havent seen any of your stuff as of yet. Scott has some scary creativity and looks like Gary is just as scewed. More or less paying a compliment as well as a ribbing at the same time. If you think you can throw down with those two, go for it. I know my brain doesnt think like that.

LW and I had a good conversation about this just now, and truly, there's no reason why I can't put both lugs inside the intake. It's way sturdy enough for it and I really don't know what made me think it wouldn't be. I can just take the stand-off away and fix where it was glued. Plus we came up with a couple other ideas aesthetically that will enhance the look. Pics to come at some point.

I especially like the front mounted fins and nose cone. And the trim. Very nice!

Thanks RS. I just whacked off that stand-off and glued a new lug in the intake a few min ago. I'd like to get this one finished this weekend but what with all the storms and killer humidity we've been getting, I doubt if I'll get to do the touch up spraying where the lug stand-off was. I may get the rest done though.

Hey Scotty, and all other interested, Here's a vid to 3 of my own designs. The 1st is Argus Transport. My spin-off to the Estes Trident. The 2nd is Argus Freighter, aft tube made from a salt can. The 3rd is Daddy Faddle. It an upscale from the original design. I have a great many of those as it's prolly my "claim to fame" rocket. Details available on that note.

El,

My scary side surfaced way way before Gary's. Back in the 70's and 80's I was putting out some really strange birds. I designed the original flying pyramid back in 1970 and soon afterward a completely square rocket I named Infinite Square. In the 80's I came up with flying versions of an octopus, an Eiffel Tower, a carrot, and a shower stall. There were probably other infamous examples but memory escapes me at the moment...:y:

I hate that we lost time in those years LW. I never got to see any of those lift off. Maybe they'll be in those boxes we have to unveil?

Gary,

I think you should start new threads for both the Argus birds. There are interesting structural features on them that deserve some close-up shots like you did for Psionic Predator.

No worries Scotty. We both took it the way it was intended, good natured ribbing. We just couldn't tell which of us it was intended for.
