What did you do rocket wise today?

Worked on an electronics design project and a rocket design. Gathered more parts & did software config for my 3D printer rebuild (to print rocket stuff).

Today I sanded the first 2 MD rockets again. There were still some rough spots and some tube showing. I put some un thinned CWF on the spots and sanded it smooth. Tomorrow I'll try again to put a final coat on. Last night I drew up plans for a rocket to replace the the one I cut up the other day. Coincidently the rocket I'm replacing was built about three years ago. It was named Omicron. Which is one of the 25 brightest stars in the sky. When I couldn't come up with a name I used that list for names.

I know it's been done before, but I started on my own version of a Toblerone rocket.
End flaps were glued together to make a nose cone.
Added a strip of cardstock to make a shoulder for the nose cone.
Fins will be TTW at the corners, papered and shaped with an image of the Matterhorn.

Hmmm.....

Laters.

Last night I was looking for inspiration of my next rocket build... I came across a somewhat odd-ball RIM-50 Typhon LR - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RIM-50_Typhon

Looks a bit like a Nike Hercules. I like the idea of doing something others have not done but I think that Nike Hercules is probably cooler looking (although I do like the ramjet nose on that sustainer and those antennas are pretty cool).

Here is more detail on sustainer:

I did a quick mock-up in OR and it looks like it can be made stable (although sustainer needs a fair amount of nose weight to make it stable).

How many pounds of noseweight.......

I didn't.. it's basically a 3FNC... and sim's out at 1.2 Cal

Cool, just curious... Lately I have had models where the booster+sustainer is stable but sustainer is not and vice-versa... I wonder if it is acceptable to have less cal of stability on sustainer since it will already be moving quite fast when it releases and is on its own.

Happy days. It made it to 60 today. After a couple of months of waiting I was able to put a final coat of Krylon on one of the rockets that have sat in the corner. I also got ready for tomorrows launch. I'm taking four 4" rockets. It's going to be a low altitude day tomorrow. It might get windy. The forecast is 8 to 9 mph winds. But it always seems to blow harder out on the lakebed.
