In Va, like most states, the law says "slower traffic keep right". No exception is made for speed limits.

Usng Google maps to plan a vacation / set up travel plans. and trying to do this on your phone..
I feel Google maps has a lot of capabilities, but is seems such a PITA to actually make plans: you need to take a course / look up 'how to' videos to just plan a route & set destinations (And you are only limited to 10 places per day..)
There are many more 'gripes' with Google maps..

I will admit, it never made sense to me either, until we did It.
Our first trip to Disney (land in this case), our oldest had just turned 5 and youngest was 2. The little guy is 10 now, and doesn’t remember much (anything?) from the visit, but I will never forget him playing peekaboo with Goofy (Goofy covered his eyes with his ears of course), or him full on belly laughing as Chip and Dale antic-ed their way around the room during dinner. Also, the “Holy crap that is Mickey” face was excellent as well.
Cardio rehab this morning. 20 minutes each on treadmill and elliptical, 15 min on arm crank. Blood pressure is (very) slowly dropping, almost into normal range. Resting pulse is now around 65-70. Before the stents were installed, it would run around 80. Minor downside is the blood thinner makes me bruise SO easily; both arms, chest, belly, upper back, thigh, ankle...

People who have no 'headlight etiquette'.. those few who use thier high beams at dusk, in a driving rain storm in a city, and those who are unaware that actually have to 'turn on' their lights at night.. And those who can't or are unaware about aiming their headlights when they change a bulb.
People who can't use tab stops properly on a word processor. (so, to get a column, they: tab-tab-tab-tab-tab-space-space-space to get the word where they want..)

Misuse of the word "intergalactic." It is only an "intergalactic conflict" if it's a conflict between two or more galaxies.

People that put their shopping cart in the middle of a grocery store isle. Oblivious to the fact that it's blocking everyone from getting by.

Both with masks, both with eye protection (over their prescription glasses), both with rubber gloves on (And both seen in the paring lot sanatizing their gloves...)

Barking dogs. Can't they hear their own dogs if I can hear it 1/2 a mile away, or a lot closer as in the neighbor 500 yards away. But then I know he is deaf as a post.

People who dress up like power rangers and ride their bicycle in tight two lane traffic when open clear sidewalks are available.
And yes I know it is legal, so is licking toilets at truck stops, but is is stupid and dangerous.

It's illegal to ride on the sidewalk in many (most?) places.
The road is where bikes belong. A few seconds delay until you can pass them safely isn't going to ruin your day.

Cycling in sidewalks is illegal in my city. Bikes are vehicles and belong on the lane, following the laws of traffic including traffic flow and stop signs. If you're in a car, pass when it is safe to do so and give the bike some space. Be a good person and share the road.

Yes Calebj, you're right, it is illegal to ride on sidewalks in many places. What's worse is that in many places in Virginia you don't even have the option of sidewalks because (pet peeve) they don't exist outside of new housing area construction. So where are cyclists supposed to ride? And it's not just our lycra-clad road warriors...there are lots of people who prefer to bicycle to work, especially as they're trying to reduce their "executive" body shapes. How do they get from their homes to school, work, stores, etc.? It's great when some counties put in bike paths...reduces the number of cars that scpearson would have to be in traffic with. Maybe not an issue where scpearson lives but it absolutely is in the "urban corridors" along I-95. Be happy it's just cyclists...if this dearth of school bus drivers (another pet peeve) isn't fixed we may find ourselves walking behind students who also don't have sidewalks between their homes and schools.

P.S. Kids are still missing the first two classes in school here...don't know how they're going to pass the school year without repeating a grade...unless we we just set that education bar all the way down onto the ground.

And while we're on the cyclist pet peeve...
I used to regularly bicycle on one of the "bike paths" in Virginia Beach which was nothing more than a widened sidewalk but quit because
1) the city never repaired the sidewalks leaving hundreds of cracks that cut bicycle tires if you don't unweight the bike when traversing them and, more dangerous,
2) vehicle drivers that try to turn the corner immediately in front of you, go past stop signs onto the sidewalk immediately in front of you, pull out of parking lots without stopping for cyclists on the sidewalk/bike path, etc.
I'd like to think perhaps they believe that if you're on a sidewalk on a bicycle that they have the right of way but the reality is that most don't even see the cyclist is there. Gotta tell you, it's been my experience that the sidewalk (even one designated as a bike path) has presented me with more almost hospital trips than riding in the lane with the vehicles.

Cyclists are on a 2-way street (no pun intended..)
They are expected to use the road, the same as cars. But they aren't as fast as cars
Cars hate cyclists, as they are slow and area an obstacle.
But then again, there are expectation on both sides, and these generally get in the way:
Cyclists expect a certain amount of courtesy & respect when on teh road. [Some] cars are willing to give this to them, but the other motorists behind them don't see what the hold up is, and are impatient..
Bikers (& people) seem to think drivers (truckers especially) see them, and will maneuver around them. They don't / they can't.
Here in Montreal, it is illegal to ride on the sidewalk, yet many do.
Montreal has an extensive bike network, but some of these are useless, as they only go a limited distance, and force you to share the road in certain areas (like industrial zones!)
The law here is that you must give cyclists 1.5m lee way when passing (that's almost 5 feet!) and on a single lane road, that's most of the lane.
Many motorists turning right rarely look in their right hand side-view mirror to see if a cyclist is coming.
And some cyclists (lycra worriors) are just arrogant and "insist" on being in front at their speed..
Montreal has apparently reported 7 cyclist deaths so far this year. the most recent on a busy intersection downtown. A truck was involved (see link below).
SO, there is a bit of give & take on both sides, and certain expectations.

I was a bike courrier downtown Montreal in the late 80's early 90's. That teaches you a lot! I've been 'doored' twice, and have kicked off 2 side view mirrors "If you ain't gonna use, it, you don't [ ... ] need it !! [kick!]" but a lot has changed in the last 20 -30 years..

Well I am a bike enthusiast myself sans the outfit and I agree with " Be a good person and share the road." But that's not reality. Reality is people driving around with their phone in there face, parents driving while rotated 180deg out of their seat fighting with the kids in the back, people that need to jack their trucks and install tires and mirrors that extend 3 ft each side, the folks eating an entire meal while driving, along with all the large commercial vehicles, people swerving out of the lane because they saw the bike at the last moment, the long line behind the bike because a few people are not comfortable with passing or don't have the opportunity, etc.... I live in central FL and most of what I see is hobby and fitness biking, not basic transportation. When you have a choice plan a safe recreational route, don't just plant yourself in the middle of congested traffic and ride like your the only one on the road because by golly you have the right to.

Yes it is illegal in most places to bicycle on the sidewalk but our traffic laws haven't kept up with current events.
For instance, where exactly do skateboards and these little electric "Scooters"* belong? They are not allowed in the streets and they don't belong on the sidewalk with pedestrians.
*I'm not referring to the likes of 125cc/250cc scooters of the Honda or Yamaha type that can go 100mph and blow the doors off of most cars at the stoplight.

You're absolutely right...it goes both ways. There are those who do the right thing and there are the others. I've always told my kids, just because you're right doesn't make you correct.
I used to ride in another location 25 miles one way to work. Back then I'd see maybe 5 cars. Now I can't get down the block without being passed by 5 cars. My pet peeve is that urban planners are more aligned to carving out extra spots to build a house (taxable income for the county) then they are about alternative transportation routes when the two aren't mutually exclusive. But then those same planners also give us high schools filled at 2 times their intended capacity. (Yes, they meet fire code but when the bell sounds for students to change classrooms they can only go one direction for half of the break time while a teacher holds up the other students from going the other direction until halfway between the bells.

Here we go, leisurely only person on the planet, 9 MPH ride in a no passing 40 MPH area with 8 cars behind and an unused glass smooth sidewalk the entire route. You will see this during heavy traffic as well.
Bicycle riding on sidewalks is permitted in the State of Florida. Section 316.2065, Florida Statutes, Bicycle Regulations, provides as follows:
Now I know laws are different is other areas, but in this situation would this guy get a ticket for riding on the sidewalk? if your child was riding down a sidewalk like this anywhere would an officer stop and make them get in the street?
