Spent the first half of the day on rocket projects, but broke away from rocket work in the mid-afternoon for some minor repairs, maintenance and prep on several of my large scale electric RC models. Headed to Bomber Field near Houston early Thursday for a large model fly in, the well known B-17 Gathering and Big Bird Fly In.

Bringing an 78" span T-28 Trojan, an 80" span Twin Otter, a 78" span B-24 Liberator and an 84" span Short Solent four engine flying boat. The T-28 and Twin Offer had have been in storage for a while and need a good checkout.

Photo's please... I would love to see that B-24.

I finally started 7 years after I brought home one of my son's speaker baskets to make a wall clock out of , I finally after seven years of moving it around four different times started on the project. I prepped the basket and got out some of the new Dupli-Color Metalcast paint and sprayed two coats, which were extremely low in viscosity so naturally there were two or three spots with runs that appeared almost instantly. So being enamel paint which I hate to start with, it requires that before applying further coats, you have to wait 7 days before reapplying the paint again. this is typical with projects that I have going on in the last part of my life, one big miscarriage after another.

Marty, things aren't *that* bad. You can clean up enamel "boo-boos" by wiping on lacquer thinner. It will dissolve away all the enamel. Please wear gloves!

Things I sometimes say at launches, "well, *that* didn't work!" (as rocket goes skywriter under boost). I hope you can see what you call "miscarriages" as learning experiences.

Went for a covid test. Had really bad hayfever for the past few weeks. I am sure it is hayfever, but a sore throat that popped up yesterday says it deserves a covid test now. That's the tenth one for me.

Oh, god, not another one!

Sigh. The germophones are right. The hypervigilant "I've got a sniffle and a sore throat so I might have some deadly disease" folks are right. Man, I am tired of the plague!

Yesterday I saw my neighbor who has been in the hospital with COVID for the past week...saw him outside with a good distance between us as he is apparently still supposed to isolate for awhile. He had a breakthrough case, but being that he has the comorbidity sampler (almost 70, obese, diabetic, COPD, etc), and he survived infection without needing any additional breathing help other than oxygen, he's feeling very favorable toward his vaccine..."Didn't keep me out of the hospital, but did keep me out of the ground" was his view. This guy has been more of a Grandfather to my kids, than their grandparents, he's been their neighbor their whole life, and their biological grandfathers live 1300+ miles away. He's even gone to Grandparents day at my kid's elementary school every year they had it so the boys had someone there. Really so thankful that they will get to sit on the swing with Mr. Glenn again.

I watch to a launch where another guy was flying his RC upscale Manta. Afterwards, we were talking about making a RC Apogee Condor. Has anybody done that?

PS: Oops! Wrong thread....

Had a busy day. Was out for maybe an hour. Went to the pharmacy. Went to the grocery store hoping they finally had some diet Mtn Dew. No joy. First it was toilet paper and now it's sodas. What next. I need my caffeine. After that I picked up some take out. That's only the second time we have had take out since this started.

took a one-hour power chair ride and met some of my cigar buddies up at the high end Shopping Center, then came back and met my daughter and her two sons at the Mexican restaurant ,and then went for ice cream. in bed by 9 p.m.

I made the rounds. Out among the great un-masked masses. Anytime I have to go to a store I try to combine all the stops into one trip. So I went to the pharmacy. Home Depot for a toilet handle. The last one only lasted 16 years. Their paint supply was looking a lot better today than last week. Walmart for some BB's and a folding chair. I dropped off some recycling and went to the grocery store.

Did battle with a bolt extractor on a broken piece of farm gear. In other news, swore quite a bit.

I've often found bolt extractors to be more hindrance than help. I've had better luck using heat and good quality candle wax if rusted and there's a little bit to grab hold of. If broken flush, I just drill through and retap. Nothing worse than breaking off an extractor. Then the real fun begins... 🤬🤬🤬

Got in a 42 mile ride at first light (19.2 mph average, new PB) and have spent the last 4 h and counting at the boys swim meet. Love that the new natatorium is less than 1 m from my house. Way more flexibility to salvage the day than when the pool is 40 or more minutes away.

Installed a power meter on my bike. Connects to Garmin head unit to record and give me real time power data...now I can quantitatively see myself fade on a long ride. In all seriousness, it is mainly for help pacing looooonnngggg rides. I can pretty much attack anything under 50 miles, but over that requires care. I was trying to do it with heart rate, and that is ok, but too many things like hydration, temp and even posture effect it.

Is the park near the ocean? Sharks teeth. Arrow heads? How old was the coin.

Ah coin was just there for scale... ;)

The area used to be underwater (millions of years ago) and is pretty famous for fossil hunting (1st time we went). Things in picture are fossil oyster shell, right top are a few concretions (interesting mineral formations), fossilized shark teeth (two different types of extinct sharks - possibly porbeagle and crow sharks), and bottom two are fossilized worm holes or some type of burrow (basically stuff fills the hole and becomes a fossil). Apparently you can find arrow heads and other artifacts here but we did not. Found a bunch of other stuff that turns out to be rocks (really thought some might be fossils) and a couple of bones of modern animals. Still learning and hope to go back. My wife was the least enthusiastic and turned out to be the best at finding sharks teeth and had lots of fun.

Moving the younger child into college. Tonight we will be empty nesters.
You're not empty nesters until all the kids have graduated and got places of their own.

Installed a power meter on my bike.
How does that work?
  • Power can be computed as torque times angular speed, which requires measuring the torque. (Speed is easy.)
  • Or it can be computed as the time derivative of ½mv², which requires knowing the mass. (Again, speed is easy, for known wheel diameter.)
