Kosdon L1860. First time I saw one was Jim Davis flying it in a 54mm Minimum Diameter rocket. Mach 2.3 was the simulated speed - this was when I was ~11 years ago, so 24 years ago. I vividly remember seeing the rocket postflight with the paint peeled off of the nose cone tip, etc.

Jim gave me this very rocket earlier this year and I plan to fly it again. Perhaps a Loki L1040 will be just the ticket unless I can find another hard hitting fast-burning motor. K2050 wouldn't come close to that velocity, I think.
Loki L2050 with the tailcone nozzle if you have room for it.

NICE

The second incarnation of H.A.R.D. ... still have any of the old ones ?
No, not any more... But according to Gary Rosenfield one of them is in the archives of a museum in Seattle or something, he donated a bunch of stuff there. I called the museum to see if they were on display or not and the people there were extremely rude...

Aerotech E28... I think.

E reload for an 18/20 case. I flew one. That was awesome.

I haven't really been in the hobby long enough to have any of my favorite motors go out of production, but looking back at old flight reports and thrust curves, some of the KBA motors just seem awesome, especially the L3000 and M3500.

That was the E27. Disposable version was the E25. I still have an E25 in my range box. Both great motors.

That must be it. I happened a few reloads this morning and saw the 24/40 is the E28 so I started thinking it was the E24... Guess not. LOL. Thanks for the correction!

Both motors were 'barely' an 'E' motor with a total impulse of 22N-sec.

Sales of both were pretty poor and I discontinued them along with the 'B' & 'C' 18mm RMS reloads in late 1992.

It was sad when those were discontinued. I really enjoyed those loads. Especially the C4. If AT ever decides to bring them back (maybe under the q-jet name), make sure you have a fresh nozzle per reload. Reusing the blue thunder nozzles were not to bad, but white lightning was a pain.

I've also wished AT made an offset core D reload like the C4 was. While the D13 and the Q-jet C's and D's are amazing, they burn way to quickly which produces to much thrust for some rockets. The D13 has shreaded a few of my fleet :p.

Anything with Vmax on its label. But if I had to choose one, the K2045 is it.

Great motor! Ken Allen at Performance Hobbies might still have an L1860F! 4 long grains!

I really wanted those 'B' and 'C' RMS reloads to be produced and sold.
Sadly, six months after they were released, we had yet to receive any reorders.
None, zip, zero.
It made business sense to cancel those products (Along with the E27 reload).

As for the nozzles, those were the single most expensive item in the reload kit. Having to put in three nozzles really cut into the profit. Another reason they were cancelled.

Dark smoke. I gave one to Matt Steele at NARAM-55 to demo fly an NCR Lance Delta. Worked as advertised.

Lucky enough to own a few of my old favorites. Aerotech G33J reload, G125 (old non-standard style from the early 90s), I132W, F14J, and a Rocketflite F50SS.

am i correct that the NC Dark Star motors were produced by Scott Dixon using the Vulcan Smoky Sam propellant?

might be waaayyyyyy off there

Well, I'll be danged. I forgot to get a photo last night. But your photo shows exactly what my I132's look like.

Thanks for the reinforcement!

You are correct, sir. Great motors that age well. My remaining stash of Vulcan Smoky Sams (late 80's) and NCR F62's light right up every time and burn smoothly. I'll really miss them when they're gone!

Wow, only 6 months? I remember them not being around for long, but only 6 months?

I wonder how well they would do today where hundreds of not thousands of more people own the RMS 18/20 hardware versus back in the early 90's when they first came out. I had a case, I bought the loads when I could, and I loved them. I would of paid extra for two extra nozzles, especially with the white lightning loads.

I still would love to see a comeback :D
