Yesterday, I was changing the oil in my car in the garage. Afterwards, I attempted to drive the car off the lift ramps but the battery died and the electric e-brake was stuck on. My 6' jumpers wouldn't reach the other car. I grabbed the spare cable I made for the DIY controller and used it as an extension cord. Took about 10 minutes but started eventually. It was awesome (despite the lack of altitude for my car). :)

I bought a Quinstar on sale at a LHS. The kit only had 4 of the 5 balsa sections. I've looked everywhere. I sent an email to Estes on 5/25 but no response. Tried calling today but goes to email. I could try to make a replacement but it's very intricate. I wonder what's up with Estes?

Third round of fillets on the repaired fin of the old Aura.
Second round on the new Aura.

Masked and shot black on the two upper quadrants of the ASP.
Lower quadrants were done a few days ago.
Tried frog tape, activated the "Paint Blocker" technology with a damp brush.
Still a little bleeding, only marginally better than blue painters tape.

After reading about Chris M's build on his blog, had to start a Jim Flis Space Raider build.

I used a cut length of spent engine casing for the balsa nose block. Capped one end with cardstock and filled the cavity with epoxy. Inserted a screw eye before it fully set.

As I stated to my edited post from 5/31/21, I have decided to Fly the Fleet of all my rockets at least once this year. Like many of you, much of my rocket fleet have not seen the light of day in years or ever. My report and photos of my three flights from Sat. 6/5/21 will be posted later this week. Greg Olson
I flew three rockets at the Bong State Recreation Area this past Saturday. 1st rocket was a LOC Minni-Magg on a H148R to 975'. 2nd flight was a LOC Mayhem on a H148R to 980'. Last flight was my 20 year old Estes Big Daddy on an E20W to 480' The winds were about 18mph. All three flights were easy recoveries.

Got my 900MHz telemetry modules configured and talking, so now I can continue putting the Vertical Trajectory System back together. Weather has been a tad cold so have been working inside a bit. Desk definitely needs a cleanup and the superfluity of telemetry modules needs herding and corralling somewhere. The Automatic Antenna Tracker is also on the desk, in its currently dishevelled form. That's next on my list to wire up more betterer. Entropy is always increasing...

Watched this on YouTube. I actually started by watching him restore a Cox Chaparral slot car.

Did some actual construction work on a new design. Lamington's Law states that: "Any two different length body tubes joined with a coupler allows you to make at least one dumb mistake when gluing in the motor mount". Thanks, Bruce. 🤠

Went to Lowe's and bought 3/8, 5/8, and 7/8 inch wooden dowel rods so that I could cut them up into 2 inch long pieces and mound along a wooden workbench top that I have along one wall, then have pegs that I can slide the Rockets down over and have them in an upright position and not fall over all the time. Also bought a 4 foot long 1/8 inch steel rod to use with my launcher, which had no rod that came with it. Then went to Staples and bought a paper punch and some of the white reinforcement rings so that I could punch holes in my mylar balloons and use the white reinforcement rings around the holes for parachutes.

Finally got a hold of Sandra at Estes. She said they switched over to a new email system and some got lost. She submitted the warranty request.

Went to order my first ever HPR rocket only to find it sold out everywhere.

I signed up for some notification lists and will keep vigilant watch.

Fun score = 0
Was it a Talon? That was gonna be my first but nobody had one including the manufacturer.

Yesterday was spent putting the Vertical Trajectory System back together. It now has a more professional-level GNSS receiver fitted, and the new long-range RFD900+ 900MHz telemetry transceiver. I cut more carbon fiber spacers on the lathe and removed the brass tapped spacers I had been using to hold it together on the bench. Those spacers have a titanium bike spoke up their middle holding the ends of the assembly together. Each one as a breaking load of 280kg.

It now fires up ok so I will test it to see if it links to my Automatic Antenna Tracker and to the PC for programming.

Here is a pic of the VTS on its desk stand.

Next up is to finalise the programming parameters that I have been putting off. I also need to modify the airframe that goes around this to provide ports for the camera and OLED display, and make a coax dipole antenna for the 900MHz downlink. Once that is done it might just be ready for a flight.

Good luck getting that through TSA...

BLUE TUBE HAS ARRIVED.

54mm and 75mm motor mounts, 4" airframe tubes for my level 3 prototype, and 6" airframe tubes for my level 3, and some couplers. There's also a stack of centering rings and bulkheads on the table.

The Best to you in preparation for your Level 3. Is weather still not to good for the MDRA?

Hi there!

The forecast has improved quite a bit for Saturday. A bit cloudy but no wind. Sunday is now showing "scattered thunderstorms" though so I will probably just go on Saturday. Time is noon-5 PM.
