The NAR Annual Meet is to be held July 24-31, 2021 at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY.

The NAR posted yesterday that NARAM-62 is being postponed until 2021:

"NARAM 62 Update: The COVID-19 pandemic creates significant uncertainty associated with holding our planned summer events. Therefore, the NAR is postponing NARAM 62 and will hold it in 2021."

This year's NSL is still on track but a final decision will be made on May 6th.

Well that breaks a string; the first NARAM ever cancelled - now the NARAM numbers will no longer equal my age. #$%! virus. But I understand why they did it and would have made the same decision.

Not to be pedantic, but NARAM-62 has been postponed a year, not cancelled. The National Rocketry Competition (NRC) events will extend through June of next year.

This actually will allow people to try out the NRC competition through the whole summer (assuming local COVID-19 conditions allow), which is not something that has ever been possible before!

I understand canceling the Festival. However, the NRC lends itself to remote independent flying. NARAM 62 could be conducted on the same basis. Either way, it is going to be a NARAM with an asterisk.

I see a Tshirt design

Since most people who attend NARAM are old white men , I would assume by now that most have gotten vaccinated. And if you wear a mask and socially distance you should be ok.

The salient paragraph from the March 31st Electronic Rocketeer, which all NAR members should have gotten:

Our next check-in for NARAM is the first week of April and we are hopeful that next month we will be able to announce plans for NARAM 2021.

The number of participants will depend on a few things :

( 1 ) The "Fear Factor".

( 2 ) Belief in the effectiveness of the vaccine(s).

( 3 ) Location and distance to travel.

( 4 ) Finances ( Remember there were / are a lot of "economic shutdowns" ).

(1) I'm not scared.

(2) I've been vaccinated (for what it's worth).

(3) It's fairly close to me and I enjoy travel.

(4) I have some money put aside for things like this.

(5) I'm an old white guy.

Looks like I'm in!

Thanks for the reply's, I'll keep a look out for more info.

Well, I was going to post about COVID travel restrictions, but it appears that as of April 1st, they have changed their policies to allow asymptomatic travelers to visit NYS as long as you meet the requirements (if you're bored, here you go... COVID-19 Travel Advisory | Department of Health (ny.gov) )

Prior to that, my understanding is that you were required to take a COVID test prior to entering the state, had to quarantine in the state for 3 days before being free to travel. That has kept me from burning my PTO as I want to visit Rochester for non-rocketry reasons (lived there for ten years).

From that link . . .

Overview

The travel guidelines require all New Yorkers, as well as those visiting from out-of-state or another country, to take personal responsibility for compliance in the best interest of public health and safety.

Asymptomatic travelers entering New York from another U.S. state or territory are no longer required to test or quarantine as of April 1, 2021. Quarantine, consistent with the CDC recommendations for international travel, is still recommended for domestic travelers who are not fully vaccinated or have not recovered from laboratory confirmed COVID-19 during the previous 3 months. Symptomatic travelers must immediately self-isolate and contact the local health department or their healthcare providers to determine if they should seek COVID-19 testing.

All travelers entering New York from a state that is not a contiguous state who have been outside of New York for more than 24 hours must complete the Traveler Health Form. Contiguous states to New York are Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Vermont.

Irrespective of quarantine, all travelers must:
  • Monitor symptoms daily from day of arrival in New York through day 14;
  • Continue strict adherence to all recommended non-pharmaceutical interventions, including hand hygiene and the use of face coverings, through Day 14 (even if fully vaccinated); and
  • Must immediately self-isolate if any symptoms develop and contact the local public health authority or their healthcare provider to report this change in clinical status and determine if they should seek testing.
Travelers from Canada, crossing at land borders subject to the agreement between the governments of the United States and Canada, are permitted to travel in accordance with said federal agreement and need not quarantine solely due to such federally authorized travel. Travelers flying between the US and Canada must follow the CDC guidance for international travel.

International Travelers
International travelers arriving in New York must comply with all current CDC requirements for testing and quarantined after international travel. All travelers must complete the NYS traveler health form.

Upon arrival in the U.S., international travelers must either quarantine for 7 days with a test 3-5 days after travel, or quarantine for the full 10 days without a test. This requirement applies to all international travelers whether they were tested before boarding, are recovered from a previous COVID-19 infection, or are fully vaccinated. Guidance on how to quarantine can be found here.

Upon arrival in the U.S., travelers must fill out the NYS Department of Health traveler health form to further prevent the spread of COVID-19.

For general inquires contact the call the Hotline: 1-888-364-3065 or Ask a Question.

To file a report of an individual failing to adhere to the quarantine pursuant to the travel guidelines click here or call 1-833-789-0470.

Individuals may also contact their local department of health.

Hi everyone,

My wife and I are registered for NARAM-62, and our hotel room is booked.

We are really looking forward to it. In 2018 we went to the National Sports Launch in Geneseo, and we had a great and instructive time. Hoping for good weather, but no one can do anything about that one way or the other.

Might not be a bad time to change the subject from "NARAM-62 postponed" to something like "NARAM-62 is ON!" or something like that... LOL
