Two tracker apps running on phone at same time?

When flying with redundant GPS trackers, do I need 2 separate phones, each with the app for one tracker? Or can the apps for both trackers run simultaneously on one phone, a Samsung Galaxy S9+?

If you only use 1 phone you don’t really have dual redundancy. Get a friend to help out or use a laptop and phone. We’ve all dropped our phones. it happens.

Is it the same GPS model? I know feather weight allows you to switch back and forth but you are only tracking one device at a time. I also believe Altus Metrum is the same.

No, one is an Eggfinder, the other is Altus Metrum TeleGPS/TeleBT.

So I tested and figured it out for myself. The answer is yes, both can be connected at once. I have AltDroid running and tracking the TeleGPS. I also have Rocket Track running and tracking the Eggfinder. I can hear the sound effects from both apps at the same time, although of course only one app is on the screen. As Norman pointed out, if we drop and break the phone, we lose the tracking from both devices.

Only one app can be connected to the same GPS device. For example, when the Eggfinder is connected to Rocket Track, it cannot also be connected to Rocket Locator. Although there's no reason for a tracker to be connected to 2 apps.

If you have the LCD receiver, get the LCD-GPS module add-on... then you don't need a phone. It will tell you which way to go and how far to get your rocket.
