I love that you're bringing back the Miss Riley in various sizes but uhh... if it doesn't have some form of aluminum looking nozzle it ain't a Miss Riley. It's just another 3FNC rocket with a Miss Riley sticker on it. The spun aluminum nozzle of the Miss Riley in the movie and the original RocketMan kit was the sh*t that made it awesome! Even your included certificate shows a metal looking nozzle. No, I'm not expecting a little spun aluminum nozzle in a $49 kit, but you could easily 3D print one in silver filament or build one into the printed fin can and just instruct us to color it with a silver sharpie. Then it would look like a Miss Riley, and that would be awesome.
I’m going to make a display nozzle, probably out of an expended case.

After building several HPR's over the last couple of months I'm looking forward to this for our local section where we are only allowed to fly low power. I had one of our members buy the 13 year old one of these too and he's so excited after watching the movie. Very nice kit Buddy! Thank you!
 
Cool. Glad to see some being received. Were any sort of tracking/shipping emails sent out? I haven’t seen one, perhaps I need to look in various spam folders. Both my ISP and my computers sometimes get a little overzealous about filtering stuff out….
 
My kit arrived today. Sadly, Miss Riley was pretty badly hurt on her trip. Buddy, please see email I just sent with images.

What got damaged through shipping? I will replace any parts for free. Just let me know thanks.
I sent an email to [email protected] with images of both the squashed box and the damaged parts. Basically only one fin is still perpendicular to the can and one is nearly folded over, and the body tube is scrap. Also, since the tape was popped on both ends of the box (and there's no instructions/parts list) I don't know if anything got away between MSP and SEA. But looking at the image of the kit parts on your web site, it looks like all the parts got here.

I was in the front yard mowing when the mailman came. He gently handed me the box, but as soon as I saw it I thought "I've got a bad feeling about this." I was hoping the squished end was the one that didn't have the fin can in it....but it wasn't :(.

I had thought to look at one (and fly it) then maybe get a second. But since I'm leaving for NSL two weeks from today there might not be time before you run out.

I suppose for those of you who watch auto racing for the crashes want to see the damage. Here's the fin can. I'll leave the body tube to your imagination.... :)

....of course, me being me, I'd have to fly some kind of altimeter in it. Hopefully I could get an FS Mini or MicroPeak up in that nose cone. If not, I could always use the fleece pouch method as I do in other models without dedicated payload sections. In this case, I don't think I'd want to modify the model to have one.
There is no way (without severely compromising the shock cord attach point) to stuff an altimeter (bigger than an Adrel ALT-BMP or FS Comp) up in this nose cone, and its not worth it, really, to try that. However, the body is plenty long enough to have room for an FS Mini (or FireFly or MicroPeak) in a pouch above that lovely 'chute. It will even have room for an AltimeterOne/Two/Three. So as soon as I can actually fly it, there will be performance data for it....

5 minute epoxy workd great, you won’t need much at all. Just for the fin can and motor ring. I can definitely make that parachute in all sizes, I’ll work on that this week from 1ft-16ft in sizes. They’re very similar to our TARC chutes that’s I currently sell 12”-36” on my website.

I had never looked at your TARC chutes before. They do appear to be about the same so probably not necessary to make another line unless you want too.
 
My kit arrived while I was at work today. Everything was in good condition and I'll probably build it this weekend. It certainly won't take long.
 
While awaiting replacements for the smushed body tube and fin can, I thought I’d try a little experiment to try to make this version of Miss Riley look a little more lIke the bigger kit/movie version. This involved trying to spray paint the fin can between the fins with satin white paint so that it looks more like the fins are attached directly to the body as with the larger versions. I think with careful masking at the fin can side of the fin fillet, it might work. Here’s a quick test using the parts I have. Not perfect, but it at least makes a good suggestion. I will probably do this (and try to mask as on the left in the image, not the right) when the new parts get here. It took two coats of Rusto 2x to do this. I suppose a coat of primer and one coat of satin white would also have worked as well.

Went together easy. I called and talked to Buddy yesterday. He was very nice and helpful. We had some laughs too. I just wanted to make sure my plan for building this simple rocket were correct and he assured me they were. This video tells you exactly what to do. Thanks Buddy!

She flies this Saturday at my local section 855 launch. We are not allowed over 750 ft although we sometimes exceed that and not on purpose. For that reason I plan to use a C11-7 for the first flight. This light little girl on a D will go out of sight maybe. We need a RKT file for Rocksim on this one.
 
My replacement tube and fin can arrived today and this time survived the trip, in spite of USPS handling somewhere along the way...

Somewhere between Buddy's shop and here, someone decided to ignore the "Handle with Care" stickers....how, I cannot say.
 
Here is the complete unboxing and building of the Miss Riley Rocket kit, all in under 12 minutes!

Buddy that would make a great rocket for kids. Scouts, 4H, schools. Maybe less expensive chute and no decal. The kids could decorate the rocket as they like. Its is nice and simple.
 
Buddy had asked for build pictures and flight info in the mass email he sent about the build video out to folks that got this kit (at least I’m assuming others got it besides me). So, here we go.

At this time (because we’re leaving for NSL on Wednesday morning), I opted not to paint the model as I suggested in a post #53 above, but assuming it survives both NSL and TCR’s June Swoosh two weeks later, I can paint it later. I did, however, opt to make the top 1/3 of the body into a payload section (so more like the larger model) and I opted to put the “Miss Riley” vinyl on reading from nose to tail so as to better suggest the rocket at the end of the movie, even though I pretty much agree it looks better reading from tail to nose as discussed elsewhere in this thread.

So, pictures: body tube cut and bottom of payload section prepared from a JT-50C and a PB-50 from Semroc:

I epoxied it together pretty much as Buddy described in the video (even though I really dislike working with epoxy—it is the right choice for the motor block and fin unit). The JT-50C/PB-50 assembly was glued into the bottom of the payload section with Titebond II. This pic is while the epoxy was setting:

As you can see in the picture above, I had a 3 inch chute protector from Sunward on hand. That is now inside the model.

By the way, the vinyl lettering wanted to stick to the backing sheet more eagerly than to the transfer tape, so it took some persuasion (especially the dot over the “i” in ”Riley”) to get the backing off. In the end all was fine.

Completed weight is just over 2.5 ounces:

The motor block/shock cord attach is positioned for Estes E9s/E12s so I expect she’ll first fly on a C11 or D12 and then I’ll move up from there. Perhaps I’ll be able to score one of the new 24mm Q-Jet White Lightning D22s or E26s at Alamosa and see how she does on those. In any case there will be altimeter data, most likely via a FlightSketch Mini. If so, they will be posted on the FlightSketch online log for all to see either right after the flights if there there is AT&T cell service at the site or in the evenings after the flights if not.
