Built two more research 76/6000 motors for the Tripoli launches we are attending this summer in Colorado and Texas. Also built an M1550 Redline for my "Red-Tailed Extreme". I will be flying it at NSL in less than three weeks. Sharon plans to fly her L3 rocket, a Gizmo XL on an M1790 Skid if AMW gets it in on time.

Ground tested the 3” black fly named the joker. .75 grams in the booster , .25 grams in the nose cone for HED , worked perfect. Then cleaned, disassembled and prepped for paint. Lightly sanded everything and got a coat of primer on it. I am pretty convinced that I only want to build fiberglass or canvas rockets from here one out….they are just so much easier to finish and look better. Then I polished the nose cone tip and the tail cone retainer and put aside.

Well I finally finished what I have been working on. I had 4 cans of bad white paint. Eight wasted days. Plus the wind blew for days at a time. It's a 3" BT from BMS. It has a 38mm mmt and 4 x 29mm mmts. It's 74 inches tall and weighs 66 ounces with the chutes. It's dual deploy. Since it has 5 motor mounts I'm calling it Penta Gone.

I've done so little rocketrywise lately that I forgot to post when I did a little something a couple three days ago. I finally got RockSim 10 (10.0.2) up and running. The material and engine databases are at least somewhat more up to date, the basic functions don't seem as much changed as the look, and I haven't dug into it more than that yet.
 
Just finished a 1.5 hr team chat with one of teh Launch Canada teams I'm mentoring. Good discussion!

I actually pulled out a rocket for demonstration purposes.. (why is it that these teams always seem to want to screw a bulk plate to the end of a tube.. the bulk plate is a 1/2" thick, and has 6 screw around it's circumference.... No!)
 
Unintentional rocketry while searching through old boxes for the non-metric yard sale. Found a bunch of Fliskits and ASP Micro-Maxx kits that I'll list on the forum when I have time. No market for those in Oz. Also a couple of Holverson Zoomies. I wonder what else is lurking...

You find an Estes Aries SST kit in that box and you will have my undivided attention....
 
Hunted for the problem in one of my electronics designs. No luck so far. Still hunting.

Stared at the last 2 soon-to-be-fillets for my current rocket build.
 
Used a bit of watered-down carpenter's filler to do a bit of "grain" filling on the F/Glass wrapped body and fins/canards of one of my Starstreak Darts. Hope to get one ready with a protective base coat of paint for a test flight this Sunday.
 
Finally managed to get back to looking at my automatic antenna tracker. I had a lot of trouble with the telemetry off the GNSS receiver which should have been easy. The biggest problem was the radio set (3DR Sik radio system) had been set to use Error Correcting Code (ECC) but the Golay code packetises everything so all the individual lines of the GNSS NMEA strings were flowing together instead of nicely separated. So the AAT didn't recognise the GNSS data stream. Got that fixed by deleting the ECC and just going to straight data.

Got movement on it now that I have dialed the PID numbers up significantly. Now I need some decent data points (not just me wandering around the back yard) to feed into the unit to check pointing. I will capture some points into text files from the local area off a GNSS receiver to use as dummy telemetry during testing.

Would like to use the ECC because it will make such a more robust system. Will have another look at that in the future.

Got three new Top Flight Recovery chutes from Sirius. (holy cow are they nice). Put one in my D-Region Tomahawk, Big Daddy and Carrot Cluster. Had a good Estes nylon chute in the Tomahawk, but dog barf didn't protect it well last launch so it has a few holes (still works fine). BD needed a downsize from the stock 24" chute (too slow of a descent) and the Carrot Cluster just needed a chute. TFR is local too (and Sirius not too far away); glad to support nearby businesses.
 
The wind finally took a break the other night and I was able to get the final coat of paint on my last project. It is a 2.6" BT with a 38mm x 8" mmt. It weighs 31 ounces with the chute. I first painted the whole rocket black. Waited two days and then masked the stripes. I used Tamiya tape to do the masking. I tore each piece in half long ways and put the ragged edge on the outside and the straight side in the middle. Took over an hour to mask it. The main color is Rusto 2x Winter Grey. I'm calling this one Tiger.

Did some initial work on a couple LPR builds from the Apogee POF newsletters. All the body tubes are cut, spirals filled, and shot the primer on the "Shamrocket" from POF issue 534.
Also cut and filled tubes, cut and papered fins and primed the pods for the "Biohazard" from POF issue 543 (With a HUGE tip of the hat to Neil_W for both the great design and for sharing it!!).

Please note there are a couple of errors in the design published. The ring is supposed to be BT80. The pods are supposed to be BT20, but it’ll come out ok if you build it with the BT50 as shown in POF. Let me know if you want to go with the BT20 pods; I’ll send you some additional info.
 
In a stunning avalanche of rocketry activity, I glued 2 makeshift thrust blocks (made from a BT-20 Coupler) into my grandkids' "Marvin the Martin" and "Junior Space Cadet" motor tubes. I think it may have taken me longer to post this... :rolleyes:

Thanks. Once I saw that it was your design I went over your build thread for tips and techniques. I did fab the pods from BT20 and decided on a miter cut so I'm all good there. I didn't pick up the error in the POF plans regarding the BT80 ring though. I'll have to grab one.
 
Late cleanup from the first HP launch of the year up in MN. My daughter, wife and friend attended their first high power launch ever. We have flown Lp at parks etc.

I looked at some sim data to confirm Lianas rocket "stary night" (Estes magician) went to 1550' on a AT E28T load. Took off from the low power pad with athority and became visible by the sun at +36 seconds.

We flew "Spiralized Blue Tip" to 1670' on a Loki H144w motor, jlcr @400' nice flight.

I flew "Lead Sled" full redundant dual deploy MW T3 in the nose on a AT J270W Su motor to 3799'. Main @500' nice soft landing and a nominal predictable flight for this rocket.
I feel comfortable to finish my MC Frenzy rockets and step up to the 54mm next launch and 75mm motors later this year.
