I’m looking to get (2) ramjet cones like the ones on the Bomarc, but to fit 1.9” tubes. I ordered the balsa ones from Madcow and am going to try and sand them down from 2.2” to 1.9”, however, a 3D printed solution would be more elegant.

1-7/8” outside dia, 1-13/16 inside diameter. The ramjet needn’t be long at all, maybe 1” - 1-1/2”. maximum. Just have enough shoulder to epoxy in the tube. The ramjet can be conical or even rounded like a typical jet engine, though I guess conical fits the futuristic theme better. Thanks for even considering it.

Something like this?

Let me print it tonight. I recommend ABS or PETG. What Color?

I am printing 2 in black. I have black loaded. If you prefer grey, I can reprint them next week. I am going on vacation tomrrow. Is that a problem?

No problem at all, black works too. :bravo: I’ll hear from you when you get back. Enjoy.

Here is a test. It warped a little at the base.

I order tubing to test fit it.

I’d be interested in what the length is, not counting the shoulder. If the shoulder started just a 1/4” past the lip, it would be ideal. That pic looks like there’s 3 or 4 inches of material after the shoulder. I can wait til you are back from vacation to get an answer.

no. Definitely not that long. I will take measurements when I return.

Got the ramjet cones today and they look awesome! Will post a pic as soon as I get the decals applied to the rocket and the nosecone fixed . . . that green frog tape pulled the paint clean off the nosecone.

Chuck, you ought to have a conversation with NCR . . . you could supply these ramjet cones for their kits. Of course, if they did use them, it might keep you busier than you like.

What a friendly community, and it's great that Chuck was able to make these for you.

For anyone who's interested in 3D printing but not yet ready to buy their own printer, there are many services which print from your designs. Before I got my first 3D printer, I was using ShapeWays to print parts, but there are many "3D printing services".

This is an ideal first step, because you will have to draw the design, or find something close enough on Thingverse and modify it, so you get your feet wet with the design process. If you're curious about the whole process, I made a video showing how to make a custom nosecone:

I used treatstock myself prior to getting a 3d printer. Much better prices, maybe quality wasn't as good as they are small vendors that do the printing.

I am working on printing matching tail cones for the ramjets.

Here's a pic with the ramjet cones.
