Hi Everyone, not sure if this is where to post, but I'd guess not the Yard Sale.

I lost my job of 16 years this past week in a very cold way imo...my personal lesson learned is to not complain too much even when you think it's the right thing to do...some don't forget and play a good waiting game.

Sooo...I'm going to start listing some of my rare/cool rocket stuff on Ebay to get some cash since idk if I can even collect unemployment the way I was terminated *sigh*.

I'll be listing it under "wunder_buyer" and tonight (10PM EST) I plan to list a Sheri's Hot Rocket Shuttle as well as some of my TLP kits to start. I REALLY wanted to build the SHR shuttle, but wasn't sure if I could do it justice. Once I get a sense for the TLP pricing, I may start listing some of them on the Yard Sale.

I'll have to see how things go tomorrow with my lawyer and if not good and I can't find a job soon, then I'll be listing more over the next few months.

Who'd think hoarding can be a good thing? lol

Best,
Ken

Good thing to check the employment law in your area. I was downsized after 18 years and a check with my employment law friend greatly aided my severance package! Old dudes have rights!
Thanks! Will be talking to a lawyer tomorrow...sadly I found out the real pitfalls of statute of limitations as well as how unscrupulous people can be (imo). I mean I wonder if they watch some movie with their family about a bad guy and think...oh yeah, that's me!

Yeah, that happened to me long ago. You can appeal to the State Labor Board. They’ve heard that excuse before. Otherwise every employee would be fired to avoid having to pay unemployment. Of course this depends on how liberal your State is.

Thanks! Still getting over the shock...never been terminated in my 30+ years working. I've applied and if denied, I'll bring in a good lawyer if possible.

Good luck. I had an employer try to slide out of paying unemployment once by saying that I'd been terminated "for cause.". But when I filed my claim, I pointed out that I hadn't had an employee review in 18 months, and all my previous reviews were positive. The state didn't buy their argument, never investigated or even wrote me another letter, they just paid me unemployment (until it ran out).

Ken,
I'm so sorry to hear this..
Try not to worry to much..
This moment will all be a part of history soon..

I know it sounds silly but please let me know if there's anything I can do to help..

Teddy

Sorry to hear about your calamity. Hope you get over it soon, and land on your feet.
You are doing the right thing by listing on eBay to identify optimal selling price. The listing and payment fees will take a bite, but at least you will know what the going rates are for your kits.

Ken, I feel for you man.
I lost a 30 year career job due to lack of work and downsizing and was unemployed for the better part of a year. I had a great severance package and was able to collect as well after the severance ran out. I now have a job I love and am happier than I've been in ages.
Stay positive and things will work out for you.

Wonderful..
This is how things are going to work out for you Ken..
Just you wait and see..

Sorry to hear that. After 30 years, your job becomes a major part of your life. I hope that the economy in your area recovers quickly, and this is just a slight "pause". We're here for you!

Your Sherri's Hot Rocket shuttle was at $50 this morning, I made two bids and stopped when I was outbid at just over $100. I just decided to try again just now for $150 and was outbid once more. I can't imagine I'll bid again but I'm going to be watching this one for a few days and see how high it gets. But either way I feel like at least I tripled the price for you. Haha.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone...means a lot! After speaking to a *paid* lawyer, sadly odds seem well against me since the company and HR played a REALLY good game (I'm impressed! lol)...seems I'm in a pickle, but I'll survive. Good thing I've saved for a rainy day and always felt that if you have money, spend, if not, don't spend.

Whatever happens, I'm sure I'll at least I'll have some rockets left! ;)

Ken,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Why don't you let us know your job position desired and your geographic restrictions. Someone may have leads that may reverse your current situation.

Best of luck,
Fred

Thanks Fred!

I've worked in Marketing Research for 30 years and my last position was Senior Project Coordinator at one of the largest firms in the industry; however I've been a Regional Department Manager as well as Strategic Planner at the same company. Prior to that I was a Department Manager at a smaller Market Research Firm. I currently reside in NY.

I've never before been out of work and I believe I'm one of the most awarded employees at my company for the past couple of years. Plus I was known as "The Rocket Guy" at work. :)

Best,
Ken

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I worked for the railways for 18.5 years and our department, Signal Engineering, was privatised. I could have stayed under the private entity but jumped ship to try something different. It was a great move for me and I have been at the new job in R&D (spectrometers) over 21 years now. I hope it turns out good for you too.

So many positive heartwarming comments in this thread..
This is the rocket community I know and love..
Ken,
All will be ok.
Time will fix everything,
and you'll be better off when it does..

Holey smokes mann..
I just went to ebay to buy the SHR Shuttle.
I was going to raffle it off for Ken..

He's doing great on that bidding for sure,
not in small part to you guys, lol..

Wonderful..

Teddy
