"Discontinuity in rocket body diameter" warning in OpenRocket

Hi everyone,

I know the issue of the OpenRocket warning about discontinuity in rocket-body diameter has been discussed before.

So here is another example -- an OR file for the LOC/Precision Doorknob. I found the measurements from various RockSim files.

Why, please, am I getting the discontinuity warning?

I began by using the appropriate database components for the nosecone, the upper body tube, and the lower body tube. Then I got the discontinuity warning. So I used presets with the exactly correct measurements. And still I encountered the discontinuity warning.

I have become a big fan of OpenRocket, but this aspect seems not to be correct. Or maybe I am doing something wrong.

The nosecone base is 7.67 and the first airframe section is 7.68. Just check "automatic" on the nosecone base diameter. Corrected file attached.

The diameter of your nose cone is 7.67. The diameter of your upper and lower body tubes is 7.68. Yeah, OR is probably too picky about what constitutes a discontinuity, but where the warning comes from is pretty clear.

Actually, I didn't know about that automatic option. That helps a lot!

So then, I have this related question, please, for you or for anyone else. I would like to see more digits on my measurements. Now I do all my work in metric units. So my base diameter shows as 19.5 cm, which of course equals 195 mm. Is it possible to show more precision than this, or am I asking for an unrealistic amount of precision?

I understand to go Edit > Preferences > Units. But after that, I don't see how to force more precision.

Again, however, millimeter precision is extremely close. But then I am surprised that I didn't see some change when I clicked on automatic.

One of the things to keep in mind... When you're using PBTs for attaching fins or simming up various component attachment points you'll get these messages. I just ignore them.
