Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to simulate payload separation with Open Rocket.
I was able to simulate deploying payload within a nosecone. Now, I want to simulate a payload being deployed from a different section of the Rocket.
I hope this has been discussed before if so can you guide me to those threads, please?
 
My question would be why? Tell us more about the rocket design. What do you mean the payload is being "deployed".

Planning to participate in a competition, that wants us to design a rocket that will perform the Payload separation between the Drogue parachute deployment and the Main parachute deployment. Moreover, the payload cannot be separated with the Nosecone.

If I understand correctly, this all happens after apogee. So the open rocket simulation is correct. Are you wanting to see drift time and distances for multiple components?

Sorry.. I'm just not understanding the issue.

Yes, all this happens after the rocket hits the apogee.
Let's say,
Time to reach Apogee = T1
Drogue parachute deployment be at T2 (> T1)
Main parachute deployment beT3,

Hence, the payload separation should occur between the time T2 and T3.

So the question is how can I do it in open rocket?

No (or at least, I'm not thinking of any reasonable way OR can simulate single stage rockets landing in multiple pieces at all, let alone your specific use case).

Fortunately, parachute descent rates are easy enough to calculate based on chute size, assumed chute Cd (a few vendors publish this; most don't), and rocket weight you don't really need it. Use OR to get your results up to apogee, then see https://www.rocketmime.com/rockets/descent.html (I haven't carefully reviewed his equations, but at a glance they seem reasonable). There are also on-line descent rate calculators you can look for.
