You spend waaaaaay to much time looking for a motor casing! I mean, if it was a sod farm or someplace that it mattered, yeah. But a spit cardboard motor casing out in the middle of nowhere? If it doesn’t cause a brush fire (in which case I’d likely find it pretty quick), I’m leaving it. Completely biodegradable.

In the future, Wrap tape around the outside of the motor casing then insert it into the rocket body. The fit should be pretty tight but not so tight that you can't pull it out with pliers. Putting tape around the outside like you did there won't hold a motor in place.

Overall, I'd say it was a good day and a great video. Now you can buy and build more rockets.

I used blue tape in almost exactly that manner as retention on my Deuce's Wild. Worked fine... when I remembered to put it on. The one thing I did differently, which I think is important, is to wrap the tape all the way around motor. It looks like the Wizard only had the tape part way around, which intuitively seems much less secure.

A lot also has to do with how tight the motor fits in the tube. My Wizard, the motor slides in and out freely. My Yankee is almost tight enough to not need additional tape. For the Yankee, this method might work just fine. I'm just old school and have one way to do things

In my Deuce the motors were not tight at all, but again the tape (all the way around) held perfectly.

I prefer other forms of retention, but am willing to use the tape when necessary. Fitting the motors to be at least a little tighter in addition to using the tape probably could only help.

I too think it is cool to see what happens w same rocket, different engines. My Big Bertha and QCC Explorer data was fairly cool - until I lost the Altimeter II

Ain't that the truth! LOL That search was on Friday, so I just look at it as a warm-up for my Saturday hike! LOL

Someone commented that I spent way too much time searching. That may be true, but the search was fun, so I just kept at it....... What's funny was I spent a good hour searching further and further away, when finally I found it 15 feet from the pad on my way back in! LOL

In hindsight, I do remember the motor sliding in way too easy, so wrapping it first would have helped. Good news is I was able to repair her and I hope to fly it again tomorrow! No altimeters though. The only one that fits a BT-20 is the FS-Mini, which I've successfully destroyed (both of them)! 2 more on order....... The JL Alt. 2 will fit the bigger birds though!

Sorry about your altimeters. FS has a warranty for lost rockets. Send Russ an email with an explanation of what happened and he'll (probaby) invoice you $20 for the mini altimeter.

It was epic. I used to drive to Reno at least once a quarter. If I was in rockets then, I would be tempted to take a break along the 8 hour drive to launch rockets in the open desert. I loved it when the rain storms would pass and the desert instantly turned green. I miss sage.
