Hi everyone,

Looking at getting a 2S LiPo setup for my Eggtimers. I've found some small 1S battery cells that would be perfect if I put 2 in series.

Can this be done with individual LiPo's? I know that when you charge multiple cell LiPos you have to have some sort of balancing circuit or whatever...is that only during charge? Or is that an issue during discharge too?

Thinking something like this: https://www.racedayquads.com/collec...mah-30c-lihv-whoop-micro-battery-8-pack-bt2-0

Thanks!

Yes, if you charge them to the same voltage and don't draw too heavily from them. An Eggfinder is a relatively low current draw compared to motors in quads or R/C cars, so it should be fine. I would recommend that you make a Y adapter for your balance charger so you can charge them identically... I did that with some very thin 400 mAH 1S LiPo's that were just the right form factor, although adding the Y cable to make them into a 2S battery added significant bulk.

Hey Cris,

Figured I'd save you the Tech Support email, so I posted here instead.

Sounds good. The charger I was planning on using looks like a USB dongle thing and is only $10, so that seems like a cheap way to get into LiPo's. My Av Bay has something of a "wiring harness", so attaching in the connectors there will be simple. Slightly bulky, but going to these will save me a fair bit of space, so I'm not worried about that.

You can get balancing boards for LiPos. Here is one for a 3S pack. I guess they have 2s as well.

Personally I think fitting the JST XH-series balance connector is probably the easiest path, and plugging into a balancing charger.

Sounds good, would be easy enough to put together a harness for that. Thanks for sharing JST-XH too, I don't know crap about the different acronyms and because it's all meant to plug into finished products, me trying to use it for something "off label" while not knowing the acronyms and whatnot hasn't been the greatest. One of the reasons I like the 1S...it's just a single thing, lol. I can get my head around that.
