Needing some ideas about building a shop table on wheels maybe 6'x6'. what do you have in your workshops?

I have a stationary workbench in my garage, but do most of most model rocket building on a desk in a second bedroom (other than heavy sanding and painting). I would recommend searching on YouTube for ideas, because I have seen some very ingenious solutions that I never would have thought of.

I like the folding tables you can just buy. Easy to move if you need to. Sturdy enough for big rockets. And you can store stuff under them.

Why 6x6'? If I had such a bench I'd be knocking stuff over all the time by reaching over other stuff to get whatever's in the middle of the table. Unless there's a specific reason for having such a wide bench.......

Best -- Terry

What I have is a 10’x2’ bench made from an recycled bowling alley, and a 5’x2’ woodworking bench with face and end vices. What I would do if I could start over would be this - https://www.lumberjocks.com/projects/408909

I think you’re on the right track with a wide and deep bench on wheels. It would be especially helpful if you could put drawers under it where you can keep all of the stuff you frequently use. Good luck with your plans!

I have one of these Oak Workbenches from Harbor Freight and I might add a second one. Wait for a sale and add a coupon if you can. The assembly instructions are trash and the bench had a few holes and slots that needed cleaning up in order for it to be square and level. That said, I paid less $100 for it orignally and spent an afternoon making it perfect. For the price, I ended up with a very nice bench in my garage. I'm not sure I could have bought the materials and drawn up plans that ended up any better for the same cost.

Once upon a time I made a workbench from a laminate countertop that had been damaged, so I got it quite cheaply. Pro: very flat surface that is easy to clean; integral backsplash keeps pencils and whatnot from rolling off that direction. Con: most laminates are built on a particleboard base, which doesn't bear up too well with moisture.

Moisture resistance is the other benefit of my workbench. I did coat it with polyurethane so any moisture from working with pasted kraft and string wouldn't ruin the bench surface.

this is a small work bench i built today. its 2 ft x 6 ft. its 30.5 inches high. i have to get 4 inch wheels installed and will become a nice mobile table. with the wheels it will be about 36 inches tall. i will use this for my miter saw, battery charging station for my battery tools, and for my scroll saw.

I have a laminate countertop as a bench also. If you can find a benchtop supplier they might sell you offcuts or seconds at a great price. I got about 8' of bullnose 1.5" for $50AUD. Of course there is only a limited range of colors in the seconds rack so you can't be too fussy.

Legs were made up from some 1" square RHS with some adjustable feet. You can probably buy legs directly from your hardware store. The bench works well.

i need to check out Masonite :) my old bench is now pretty nasty on top!

lol, jokes on me... just looked it up. never knew it by that name .
anyway thank ya John.

I have this very same bench. Surprisingly good value and materials. Mine had no defects and went together easily. I recommend these. Like Nate says, wait for a sale or coupon.

I got a work bench leg kit (which I cut the "feet" off of, and some double locking casters to build mine. Full 4x8 and I use a sheet of vinyl wall covering as a sacrificial top. I put drawers in too, but they suck and I wouldn't recommend these at least.

That is a lot of building space and storage underneath it. You have alot of room for glue ups while leaving some other parts to dry.

newly built work bench/storage. also got my moveable base for my ancient grandfathers craftsman table saw. plans are to build 1 more like i just built.
