Started working on the red Max but it's no more, some odd reason a part on the engine mount wouldn't dry so it started tearing apart so me I got mad and just ripped it all apart tube and all.. suxs but it happened..really liked that rocket wanted it together but I'll prob not even fool with another one .

Are you going to use your decals? I'll likely find a use for them if not.

Failure is not an option. If I can deal with the number of mistakes and setbacks I've dealt with on my Saturn V and still keep going, this is easy. Everyone does it. Get back on and ride again.

Hi!:

I'm with Steven! DON'T Quit! Get some parts to fix or buy another one and figure it out. I did the same thing with my first BAR rocket, and I trashed everything except for one fin (I had glued one on MEGA Crooked) and the nose cone. I took more care with the second rocket and she turned out GREAT! So keep trying, it may take a few until you get it right.

Sincerely,
Jeff

A suggestion: this sounds like the same red max from your other thread started not long ago. Since the subject rocket is the same, may be prudent to keep its updates all together in the original thread instead of creating a bunch of split off threads. Helps keep the forum cleaner

I’ve already re-bought parts for two kits that I messed up. You only fail if you quit.

Or when the tree eats your rocket. Still working on a solution for that.

When I rejoined the hobby last year, I bought four DRM. Good thing I did because I completely bolloxed up the first two. Sorry guys, I already gave the decal sheets away.

I have attempted three Comanche 3's so far and farked them up too. #4 is in the build pile.

When building a kit, I like to do a few things to increase my success....

1) Read the instructions completely through. Then again.

2) Mark parts with a pencil (they’ll get painted later) with helpful notes, eg “Engine block this end —>”

3) Pre-measure distances that you’ll need and mark them

If 11-year-old me can suck it up and buy another Mongoose kit after gluing a motor mount in backwards with the thrust ring on the wrong end, you can buy another Red Max kit and try again.
And I have the mongoose kit. Haven't worked on it yet hope get it together soon

Well hey it's a hobby so I say ITS ALWAYS SOMETHING ITS NERVER NOTHING . Just gotta take my time next round.

If you do the mini Comanche, leave the stage couplers out. I have had a couple of them eject their second stage motors without ejecting their second stage airframes, and then the airframes got toasted by the third stage motor.

Got a story for you. Decades ago I began a build on the old Estes K36 Saturn V. Got the main tubes together along with the engine mount installed. Finished the process of installing the wraps on the main tube when I realized I had installed them upside down. Meaning the wraps that belonged on the bottom were on the top. This effectively put the engine mount at the 'top' of the tube. What a pisser.

Always been an avid instruction reader. It's a must, just like reading menu instructions for cooking.

One of my first rockets I built when I was a kid was the Centuri Excalibur, part of a 2 rocket launch set. The engine mount had one wide centering ring. I did the test fit, but when I tried to put it into the glue, apparently paper expands when it absorbs moisture from glue. It seized up about halfway into the width of the centering ring, and there it stayed. Was still a decent flier even with a good portion of the engine mount hanging out the back, way more than the 3/8" called for in the instructions. I did not feel so bad when I saw some other kids had done the same thing with their rockets, apparently that was a common occurrence with that particular rocket engine mount.

Maybe try a Mini Max instead? I never built a full size Der Red Max, but the Mini was a pretty quick build.(Flies great too) You mention glue not drying; what type of glue were you using? Wood glue takes a long time to dry. I'd def advise getting a new bottle of glue if you waited a day and it still wasn't dry.
