starting a build thread on a minie magg 38mm 5.5 Diameter from loc precision I will try to take pics at each step and post how it goes and thoughts on it. In the mean time if anyone has any advise on the magg feel free to share lol

Might be a silly question but when I built the apogee zephyr the fins locked in place with the rings and flush with body tube that is not the case with the minie magg appears the ring slots aren’t deep enough or the fin slot it to long what am I missing here The fin should slide to the motor tube but it’s not even close if I lock them in the ring first. if I don’t use the pre slots on the motor rings then fine it slides all the way but what’s the point then of the motor ring slots lol

Talk to Loc about it. You may have gotten different rings from an older variant of the kit.
Also remwmber to check the internal volume of the kit. Some 38s dont have sufficient powder to pressurize fully

I dont think the fins are cut right.
That’s what iam thinking looks to long will see what loc says I guess I can always cut them but nice when that’s already taken care of lol

Will they fit if you slid fin up on that second step? LOC will make it right. They have great customer service.

Just call LOC they will get you a new set out. I would bet if you emailed them today they would get back to you today.

BTW, the fin tang appears to have been cut upside down. They will have a good laugh over that.
Just heard back from the guys at LOC and they were awesome. They said definitely the wrong fins and they immediately shipped out the correct ones and threw in some extra rings just to be safe. Gotta give it to LOC they are good to there customers

I’d buy the old fins and rings from you to save me from cutting my own. I love these birds! One of mine has twin outboard 29’s. Avionics in the nose. The minie magg is a great rocket. Just make sure your thrustcurve is correct for your delay and you'll be good.

are those rings a separate purchase? Mine didn't come with anything like that.
I believe it’s a relatively new offer that loc does now here is the listing description now

I like LOC rockets, and they have great customer service when something isn’t right. They fix it with no argument and no delay.
But it seems like the mistakes happen too often. Instructions and parts lists often don’t match current designs. If you look at that description in the picture posted above, that’s not the correct weight by a long shot. It says 40 oz, but the parts alone weigh over 50 oz. I bought mine thinking it would be a cool big class 1 rocket for my non-HPR club, It says it’s 40 oz and can fly on a G80, so that would be perfect. But there’s no way it’s going to make the 53 oz weight cutoff after it’s built and has a motor in it. I’m still going to build it and enjoy it at my HPR club launches, but it’s annoying to buy something based on bad info from a vendor.

Pretty sure there was a relocation involved as well. The Rocketry Show podcast ran an episode detailing the things that happened during the sale.

The LOC guys do a great job. They will bend over backwards to help anyone out.

+1 they are awesome. The Mini Mag also got a redesign on the fin attachment not too long after the change of owners, it went from a TTW that used tabs just after it went through the airframe wall (the fin tabs never touched the motor tube), to a full length TTW like currently where the fin tabs go from airframe to motor tube. I believe the change added a bit of weight too.
Ok so the build is back on and this looks much better lol fins,rings eye bolt and T-nut all epoxied in
Loc gives the option of assembling the fins and rings first so you can epoxy everything for hopefully a stronger set up (yep alittle more weight too) and then cut a slit Down to the bottom aft of the body tube where the TTW cuts are and when epoxy is cured slide the whole fin can in through the “through the wall body slots and up the tube sounds good will see how that step goes lol

This is fair criticism, and I agree. A friend and I both made kit purchases recently, and the contents did not agree with the website description. There are number of build threads in this forum with wrong parts. Yes, the LOC guys are awesome to fix problems, but they would be more awesomer if the problems didn't exist in the first place.
As to the Magg, mine sometimes flies kind of squirrely. A longer rail is a big help. I suggest 8 foot minimum.
I've bought a bunch of LOC kits, and there was definitely a period where they all had issues. Probably had four in a row that were bad. Never had an issue getting replacement parts so I stuck with them. And the ones I've received this year have been correct. So I'm hoping the drunk cousin in the shipping department (or so I imagine it) has sobered out or something and he won't have a relapse.
But with a LOC kit it's probably worth doing some extra inventory and dry fitting early on so you don't get half way through and realize you're in trouble and have to stop the build.
And as noted the weights are way off on the website. If you are buying for a particular purpose you basically have to totally ignore them.

Weights are almost always way off, most builders build rockets heavier than the "display model" also there is no standard configuration for measuring the advertised weights.
