Congratulations!

But at the same time - you guys are actually flying and congregating in FL ?!!?
On the other hand, it is FL!

Congrats! I said the same thing. Still no L3... but I do have two 75mm mounted rockets.... so...

Yes, congrats. And I can't believe someone, somewhere was able to launch! We're a long way away ....

And I have to ask, did you fly some eggs as a payload? Or cook breakfast for the club? Because either one would be awesome.

Nice! Congratulations!

What motor did you use, and do you have stats on the rocket and the flight?

I’m not looking to move on to 75 or 98mm, or do my L3 either (yet). A motor class per year might be a nice pace. I still have some big J motors I haven’t flown yet. And I haven’t even really gotten into my 54mm motors. I have some hardware and loads, but haven’t flown them yet. Plenty to enjoy on the way...

Congratulations Andy! That was a picture perfect flight.

For those asking - our Tampa club hosted the launch with very specific COVID-19 safety protocol in place. It was a nice day outside with social distancing, no touch check-ins, and lots of sanitizing. It was great to get out!

Its a 4 inch MadCow Rogue - stretched 24 inches for standard dual deploy and not head end. The motor was a CTI J-360 Skid - went to 2741ft .

Thanks Chris- was great to get out and fly , and good to see you.

Lol , we collect them for one of the other club members so they can store the eggs their chickens produce.
I didnt even notice them sitting there until you said something ;)

Yeah buddy! Congrats.
Welcome to the "never-gonna-but-does" club.

Yeah - I know, but I had to at least say it 😂
Rick handed me a fin set for a damn near full scale Nike last month , I stuck em in the back of the work room closet for a reason .
I wanna enjoy my 54 stuff for a bit - and I have 3 more almost ready to go besides my L-2 rocket.
Next up is the 4 inch Amraam , Its all but ready to fly .

Nice! Congrats. Been following your build way back. Good to see the bird fly!
Took me long enough  - I was 4 days away from being ready before the outbreak put the brakes on that.
I was really enjoying flying my 38mm DD stuff and making sure I had electronic deployment down pretty well first.
Its been a fun ride

IMO the 75mm L2 motors are the best overall in the hobby.. frankly i should stop saying that before demand and prices go up

I guess that would be a rocket and field dependent statement , If I had something that HAD to have a 75 to fly , then I would fly a 75- but for me personally- I like to fly the field. Honestly where I fly , IMHO only , I feel more comfortable keeping my ceiling @ or around a 4500 ft max . Just me , many guys in the club have gone 13k +( last weekend 3 guys went 7500 or better) , but for me - I feel thats a stretch for our field without inviting trouble. I create enough of my own, ;)
that said , put me in a wide open field for miles -And I wanna let it eat on the biggest motor I can fly - because I trust my construction.

Well of course you fly the field; all I am trying to say is that so many folks go for the superlong 54s and are hesitant to make the jump. Maybe they figure 75mm = L3, but there are some seriously great L2 motors on the short side of that diameter.

I cannot tell you how many times I have rocked a two-grain sparky to the oohs and aahs of the crowd, whereas 5+ would be needed to get that kind of effect out of a 54 (and the long 54s cost more to boot)

I've come around to your way of thinking on 75mm with L2. My 54mm MMT L2 cert rocket was about my only L2 rocket for a lot of years. After 50 flights and retirement, I've got two more 4" L2 rockets that are 75mm. Although both should work fine with small M motors, the intention is to fly them on short 75s and adapted down to 54mm depending on field and weather. The 2 -3 grain 75 and 3 - 4 grain 54s seem to be sweet spots.

Handeman,

Can I ask ….Was your LVL 2 a Heavy wall paper tube model... or was it glassed. I am building my LVL2 model ….and I don't think I made a mistake by
using heavy paper tube airframe design.

My L2 was LOC tubing with two layers of 6 oz glass coating. My L1 was thick wall tubing. 2" ID, 2.25" OD. I ended up flying that on H to J motors and the I1299N flights hit it with about 80G. It held up to everything but a 300mph lawndart.

I did watch a guy do a L3 with thick wall tubing. I think it was 4" ID and 4.5" OD. I only saw the cert flight, but it was fine.

I used unreinforced mailing tube, woodglue, a Big Daddy NC, and a j270w. You should do just fine as long as your motor matches your materials.
