Greetings,

Haven't been on this forum for a long time, but with all this stay-at-home happening, I've been poking around and visited the Scale Forum here.

Attached below is a YouTube video of my 7X Upscale of the Estes X-Ray, about 11' ft tall.

I flew it on an Aerotech K700 White Lightening and it did very well. Tom the video guy for our Michigan Team 1 club edited a great video! Inside the clear section is my original X-Ray model from the mid 1970's. It is now the highest flying balsa rocket I ever made (albeit as a payload!).

A great upscale experience.

Nice rocket and video. I like the editing. I always liked the X-Ray especially, but it's hard to put my finger on why. Is this the original paint scheme ?

I re-watched the video because I missed the scary fin. There it was, definitely scary.

Can't ask for a nicer flight or video than that! I am curious, that's the largest rocket I've seen launched off what looks like a ROD. What was that, a 1" rod?

Awesome flight and great vid. I love the original version hitching a lift in the payload bay. Classic!

That was quite a launch rod. Not so much a rod; more like bar stock.

Fantastic video!

I'm in the process of building 0.75x, 1x (reproduction), 2.25x, and 4x scale X-Ray models. Fin flutter on the bigger models concerns me -- hopefully using scale thickness of aircraft plywood will be sufficient. (1/8" on the 2.25x / 1/4" on the 4x). Guess I'll find out.

On your 7x, fins would be 7/16-1/2" 12-ply plywood. Wonder if that would have tamed the flutter ... or just shredded?

The original X-Ray within the upscale X-Ray was a nice touch.

One of these days, they need to do a separate forum just for upscale and downscales of model rockets. Split them off from actual scale replicas of real rockets. I would read both!!

Agreed . . . 100% !

"Upscale / Downscale" models DO NOT belong in the SCALE section. The Scale section is intended for scale models of REAL rockets, only !
