Here is a build I'm working on, but I haven't decided on a name. Let me know what you think. It's currently all 3D printed except for the BT-50 motor tube.

8" Diameter at the base (4 fins)
40" inches tall (3 sections for the body, 1 for the nose cone). Working on last 2 sections now.

Love my 3D printer!

Are there going to be actual fins? I'm really interested to see what the final product will look like.

Trying to imagine how to construct something like this using standard tecnhniques and materials. I think it could be done but would definitely be an interesting challenge.

I like "Galactic Spike" the best so far.

No actual fins on this one. I'm hoping the skin will provide enough area for stability. I Plan to fly it on E30's to reduce any weather cocking on liftoff. Will closely resemble the flight characteristics of the Sprint missile, I hope.

I can design a set of plans using conventional building techniques such as thin ply and typical body tubes, but the nose cone may present another problem. I'll need to think about that one. I can definitely load a STL file for anyone to use.

The next piece will be the last section before the nose cone. The cut out shown is the launch lug clearance hole.

Custom couplers will be designed to attached the sections.

On cone shaped objects, the center of pressure is 2/3 of the way back from the front. As long as you keep the center of gravity well ahead of the CP you will be fine. You should not need fins, the shape of the rocket has fins built in.

I worked on a lot of saucers and cone shaped objects in the past and the 2/3 rule always worked for me.

How much will it weigh when finished?

That is one of the coolest shapes I have ever seen. Make me one. How much?
 
I think you should call it "Trylon" after the central architectural feature of the 1939 NY worlds fair. (No, I wasnt there. Im vintage, not ancient)

It was called Trylon and Perishere. (I can only assume the pointy bit was Trylon and the round bit was Perisphere.)I cant post pics at the moment, but I'll find one when I get home. That was the first thing that popped to mind when I saw the pics.
