Finally got my motor running on a build I've been fiddling with for a while. Picked up a Frenzy XL from BayouRat a couple of years ago at Airfest. Tried all weekend to get going on it, with little success. Today I fitted the centering rings on the MMT, cut a piece of kevlar for a "Y" harness and sanded the fins and fin slots so everything will fit together tomorrow when I mix up some epoxy.

After receiving my Cherokee-H in the mail I discovered I had pitched all my wood glue as the shelf lives had long since past.

Was giving to pick some up from nearby Lowe’s but Mrs. OD wouldn’t hear of it.

“Alexa! Order Titebond III wood glue 8 ounces.”

Tonight we sand and tomorrow we assemble the fin can outside the body tube.

I also marked the lower body tube where I will cut off 10” to scale it to the Cherokee-D. The tube was sized to the scale of the Cherokee-E but the included decals in the kit were the red ones from the D model so...

Good for you, as in making the Cherokee-H to the proper length to scale proportionately with the Cherokee-D (short or long version?). My only real beef with the Cherokee-H kit when it was offered was the fact that it uses a ogive nose cone instead of the proper secant ogive of the original, and yes I have ONE Cherokee upscale with the "wrong" nosecone, a fault to be remedied as soon as I have time to fire up the lathe and turn a 5.54"x 34" (including shoulder). The Cherokee-D is quite possibly my No.1 Favorite Estes design.

I downloaded plans for a two stage Cherokee D from YORF many years ago and bought two donor kits...the name escapes me at the moment but it was a BT55 kit with whistling devices.The plan was to make Cherokee fins for the booster and the sustainer where the lower fins were tapered to follow the lines of the uppers. Not sure why that project never got seriously under way.

It might have been the call of Mid and High Power.

Evidently the original version of the Cherokee-D was shorter and had borderline stability depending on how it was constructed, so later on Estes lengthened the airframe to solve the issue. K'tesh knows quite a bit about the differences. Currently my fleet has a BT50, BT55 (original diameter), a BT60 (kit currently), a 4" and a 5.38 Loc based that I did my L3 with. I have seen the Cherokee Double D and even a 3 stage variant and have considered building them.....

Except for paint, I have completed the F1 engines for the Saturn V. The funky glue putty wasn't as intimidating as one may have thought. I expect that Dr. Zooch would agree that I could have done a better job but why bother. They will be tucked up under the rocket mostly in the shade where you can't see them too well anyway.

Paint and glue the engines on, details and decals and thats about it. I am waiting for a better time to go out and buy some silver paint for the fins and engines . I'll probably work on details in the meantime.

Finally got out and flew some rockets today with the kids. We brought several LPR rockets with us and flew most of them a couple of times. Man, it was nice to hear the woosh/pop and smell some burnt BP.
We stopped by Hobby Lobby on our way home to replace the A8's and B6's we burned, but alas, they are closed until this all blows over. I guess I'll have to order some bulk packs from AC Supply. With club launches scrubbed for the foreseeable future, local small field flying will have to suffice.

Repairs, repairs, repairs....installed new shock cord mounts into my 3" Big Bertha and 3" Arapahoe-I (ooops, too short of shock cord snapped the 1/8" ply centering rings in half with the ubolt still attached), rebuilt and redesigned my Nike Cajun 24mm to 18mm electronically staged rockets Altimeter bay with a new mostly 3D printed one, other repairs yet to do....

Didn't do much today rocket-wise due to a bad headache and other things, but did receive my two new Semroc kits this afternoon, the "Omega" and the "Hawk" (identical to the Estes Astron Falcon boost glider).

So, now I have 4 new kits waiting in the queue for when I finish my Estes AGM 12-D Bullpup, and my Aerotech ARCAS HV (converted to dual-deployment).

Who makes these cool-looking orange plastic ebay sleds I keep seeing??? I like the looks a heck of a lot better than the plywood one I just built and had to modify the heck out of! Thanks!!!

Decal work on the Lunar Scout.
Chris M. writes in his blog that the newer Estes decals seem to be thinner.
I think this is true. Had a dickens of a time keeping the tiny decals from folding up on themselves when sliding them off the backing. Finally got a technique down.

Legs/fins are fiberboard, seem kinda flimsy.
Parts were pre-painted then assembled to save me some grief.
Meh, if this lasts a couple of flights I'll be satisfied.

Three sources come to mind...
Orange ones are Lab Rat Rocketry (Chris Bender aka Cl(VII)
Blue ones and Orange ones are Additive Aerospace (Landru)
Gray ones are SMT Designs Rocketry (Steve Thatcher)

All three vendors make great products, Additive Aero is who makes the sleds for Missleworks branded stuff, and Chris and Steve make some great products too!

If they are seen in my threads then they were designed and printed by me (in the last three weeks) at this time I have no intentions of being a vendor, its just not my thing. I have done a review of several SMT Designs products as I have purchased several from Steve (he's a friend and "local" flier). Chris at Lab Rat Rocketry has a killer design for a pull pin switch for AvBays.

I went back and found your original question from last Saturday and it was me you were asking, sorry I missed it, the sleds you were asking about are designed and printed by myself, the color is currently Hatchbox True Orange PLA but will soon be changing to eSun Solid Red PetG as I just finished the roll of Hatchbox stuff.

I decaled the Corvette Class the other night and Chris's blog came to mind. The decals were thin and difficult to work with but were strong enough to survive my ham-handedness.
