Picked up from eBay for $25 + shipping: Quest MicroMaxx "Super Value Starter Set"
9 Quest plastic MicroMaxx bricks, er, rockets
Launch pad
Controller
2- 5" x 5" sheets wadding (note says use 1" x 1" so enough for 50 flights)
50 older style motors and igniters (what I was mainly interested in):


Windy day? Pah!
No big field to launch? Pah!

Pardon me while I sit here and be jealous.

I really need to dust off my MMX silo pad and get some motors and igniters. I think I have four rockets that have never flown, and I'd love to downscale some models.

I did get a good flight out of the micro maxx Saturn V, so that one at least is not a brick.

I had the Flis-Kits TOG as well as a bunch of other MMX rockets. I loved flying them !!! I had a full on MMX pad with a rotating and tilting rod. Go all in or don't go at all.....LOL, LOL

I need to get some motors and build some more MMX rockets....

There are 2 versions of the MMX SV, small and large fins. The small finned design usually does backflips. The large finned design is pretty uncommon, and IIRC, only came in a starter set. For the small fin version, a set of clear fins a bit larger can be cut from just about any blister pack and CA'd on, it'll fly fine after that.

OK, now I'm totally confused. On the left is the Sat V from this super value starter set, still in the plastic bag. On the right is my original Sat V which I have flown a couple of times, both wonky (hence the brick appellation). It has the larger fins but still doesn't fly straight. Only straight flight with a Quest plastic MMX rocket has been the saucer, and that was only 50' or less.

I have the one on the left, only from the Space Pioneers ( SatV + Shuttle Orbiter ) box.

I have the version on the right. It came with the fold-up "silo" launch pad. It's been a long time since I flew it, but I remember it lost the nose on the first flight, so I glued on a matching section from a hard rubber display SV and drilled a hole in the side of the fourth stage body to do tumble recovery. It actually flew much better after that, but to much lower altitude. I'll bet I couldn't get it to land on thr roof of a two-story building with that nose on it.

If I remember correctly, when the details for the SatV was sent to China to be made, the fins were larger to give better stability but the engineer that was setting up the injection mould saw the fins were the wrong size and shrank them to the correct size. First batch that were sold were smaller "correct" fins and later batches were larger fins.

All that should be in a thread on here somewhere.
