HAMR 38 vs aeropack

So I am building a PML rocket. Staying in the family suggests using a HAMR 38 retainer, which frankly looks nice.

But also the aeropack 38 looks great at significantly less cost, and also works great with their adaptors. Is there any reason to go PML over aeropack?
 
I've had/used both. Pretty much the same thing. If you order the Aeropack you will need the -P version (assuming you have a phenolic motor mount tube).
 
One thing to consider is that they are not cross compatible. So if you misplace the ring from one, you can't use one from another rocket unless you have a similar one with you.

Like mentioned, the HAMR has fine threads vs Aeropack course threads. HAMR also has a different texture, diamond shaped gnarls vs Aeropack's fine lines. To me the HAMR is nicer but it's personal preference. The Aeropack is a bit more versatile with different sizes for different MMT manufacturers and one ring fits all the sizes.

great point.. given I have aeropack everywhere else probably best to stick to that, not to mention the availability..

good luck with the fiberglass! Do not be intimidated, simply listen to those who have done it before and it will be awesome.
 
The build went great - super smooth - all the great advise and help here made it easy - cant wait to send it up this summer. I will be flying stepped down to 29mmn for now but this will be my level one rocket when I get the means to go for cert :)
 
I will say though that the addition of the tail cone in this relatively short rocket significantly impacted the amount of nose weight required to make it stable. With the tail cone I required 200g lead in the nose, had I built it with a standard Aero Pack retainer (flat tail) I could have dropped to 100g. (Open rocket Sims ) - Food for thought

You put 200 oz in a Twitch? Holy cow! And you are flying it on 29mm?

Twelve and a half pounds of nose weight? Is that a typo? What 29mm motor are you using and where the heck do I buy one?
 
LOL - 200g- not 200oz that would be a ton of weight. :)
