I love the odd rocks and sci-fi stuff but there is something elegant about a rocket that is obviously purpose built.

I like the rocket as well, I'm also partial to 4-finned rockets (although I know that there are some strong opinions here in favor of 3 fins!).

I know Babar speak Klingon so he probably speaks Swahili as well...

I love the look of four fins and split fins but if I am designing for pure performance it would be three small fins.
 
LOL, I don’t know Swahili or Klingon. Just like people think romantic things sound better in French or Italian, seems like translating rocket names like sword or knife or needle or dagger into Swahili always sounded cool to me. With all due respect to @k’tesh, I ma not convinced Klingon is even real. I made up the name “T’Orq” for a model that looked like a cross between a Klingon Bird of Prey and a crescent wrench. Don’t get me wrong, it was a really COOL cross!

I am able to make the tubes really light because the MMT has two centering rings and there is another ring towards the nose that the shock cord anchors to. It has holes in it for deployment gases but it still stiffens the tube. The nose cone also helps with hoop stiffness so they will certainly handle the launch.

The cool thing is the lighter it is built the lighter in can be built. I know that sounds obvious but as it gets lighter there is less stress on the air frame so we can go even lighter.... There are certain structural aspects and requirements than need to be met but I am not a fan of overbuilding.

There are cases though where a lighter rocket does not fly as high because it slows down very quickly during the coasting phase of the flight.

Me as well. The lighter it is, the easier it is to recover (smaller parachute, less deployment stress, etc...), the faster it accelerates up to speed, and the better it flies on long burn motors. I'm a fan of strong enough and strength through design and materials, rather then massive epoxy fillets everywhere.

You are my Hero, you are also a rare breed. A good design with the correct materials for the application will win every time.

As an example I did through the wall fins but the tabs are only about .25". When I cut the four slots the tube would be super flimsy to some people. However, after putting the MMT in and mounting the four fins that area is rock solid. I did through wall not just for durability but because I find them easier to attach.

I definitely do not follow the Rube Goldberg school of design.
 
Update, I need to shoot a pic but all painted she weighs 162 grams !!!! I now have a 29mm version about done.
Too heavy for an 18 mm with an adapter. Would this fly on a Fat 24 mm C? I’m thinking with a D it’s gonna scoot. How big is your field?

I think you are correct it will move on a D and I plan to fly it on an E !!!! With a streamer at apogee and DD at 300'. We have a pretty nice field and not that it matters with MPR's but we have a 4K waiver. I will do the maiden on an Estes D and then move to an Aerotech E. I really designed it for E's and F's.

I just weighed the 29mm version.......435G !!!!!!!!!!! It is 60mm ID and just under 5' tall. I think I can make my tubes a little heavier. That does not include the chute or shock cord but I think that is pretty light.
 
I am not sure anyone would be interested but I could do a thread on my building methods. Not really a build log for any one rocket but how I roll my tubes, turn my nose cones and even laminate fins.

Thanks my Friend, if the walk looks to be too long I hire a kid to go get it.....LOL

I don't think I told you this but a line in your signature rings in my head frequently and helped me get through some tough times lately.
