Does anyone else besides Proline/Performance Rocketry make a full scale ARCAS or have 4.5” cardboard tubes? I’d like to build one but seems like the only options are fiberglass which would be ridiculously expensive and heavy. I had someone printing me a boat tail, scale fins, and a nose but he ghosted from our club last August and never heard from him again.

Greetings,

I am not aware of a current offering. When Totally Tublar was still in business, they offered a kraft tube for a full size Arcas. I do not know of any nose or tailcone parts. I believe I have one of these tubes in storage. I'm sure it would be pricey to ship though

Yazoo Mills offer a 4 inch ID 4.4 OD tube in 60 inch lengths

Just looked those up. I wouldn't have need for more than two and I'd need some way to couple them. 0.4 wall difference is very heavy. Might bite the bullet and save up for one of the current available kits.

The wall thickness on these tubes are .200 and I would not hesitate to shove a N2000 in one . Coupling the tubes are easy . Comercial 98mm tubes are 3.99ish OD. What is your end goal motor wise?

Try Performance hobbies. Ken sells composite wrapped cardboard and phenolic tubes in 4 inch and 5.5 inch diameters. The G10 wrapped tubes go for about half the price of a fiber glass equivalent. performance hobbies.com, select the "accessories" banner to see these listings.

I’d need 4.5” tubing. Trying to avoid buying anything from him though given his bad history.

alwaysreadyrocketry has 4 and 5.5 inch BlueTube. will that work?
No, he needs an OD of 4.5". That is not a common size in standard cardboard tubing.

I have a Doug Stout ARCAS which is 4.08" OD due to the thick wall tubing it is made out of. It is pretty heavy I have not directly compared but if memory serves correct it's close in weight to a FG tube.

There is no prohibition on using PVC as tubing. The BadAzz rockets used to be made out of PVC and there have been a bunch of "sewer rockets" made all out of standard PVC piping that have flown. The issue is that PVC tends to be pretty heavy. I do sorely miss Eric's rocket offerings - I regret not picking up a Mizz Rhonda when I could.

I contacted Erockets a while back about that tubing and they said it’s thin (like Estes thin) and will not hold up to high power.

Thought about glassing. I had ordered the tubing from them and couplers to run down the length of it (or most of it, maybe spaced out they'd work) and sent them to the guy that was printing the rest of it to get the diameter right and he vanished so I'm out the cost of the tubes and the filament to print the parts.
