Watched my youngest son launch a Estes MultiRoc on a C6-0 staging to a B6-4.
Perfect flight, booster landed 50' from pad and rocket recovered about 100 yards from pad.
Our first two stage launch.
Proud dad.

'Had some extra time on my hands, today, so I started back on my U.S. Army Patriot rocket by Estes Industries. About a month ago, I had begun the build, however, Christmas building began, so I put this project off for a later date. The picture of the completed rocket shows what mine will look like when it is finished. The other pic is what I have done so far. Note my Cherokee E with the backward fins and my AIM Phoenix. What was completed from last month was installed the motor mount, installed the shock cord, cut, sanded and attached the vertical stabilizer fins, and attached two launch lugs. Then I painted the inside of the motor assembly a gloss black and the rest of the rocket a flat white. Today, for a couple of hours, I worked on masking off a section just above the fins for the red paint, and bagging the rest of the rocket to keep any over-spray from getting on it. I tried last month painting the lower half red with a spray can of Krylon, however I got runs so bad it wasn't even funny. I had to sand and re-shoot the white paint over the rocket again. So, I decided to decant the red paint from the aerosol can and then poured it in a glass jar for airbrushing it next time. Finally, I got this to look fairly good. Due to the cold weather and cold temps in my garage, I had a heat gun aimed 6 inches from the model while I was airbrushing, and that gave it a smooth finish. Peeling the blue masking tape back and off, I saw a perfect seam, and I was very relieved that there wasn't any bleeding under the tape onto the white side. Decals were next. I did only half of them, because I have to paint the top section a two-tone red and yellow, first. Then I'll apply them. Oh joy, lol. I'll tackle that, tomorrow. 'Hope everyone is doing fine.

Last night I finished an OpenRocket sim of an OOP kit from 3D Rocketry, the Circulus 3. Used Madcow fiberglass parts in this one.

Finished gluing the tube-storage thingamajig, made from the scraps of leftover blue foam. The dark blue round things are nails which I happened to have, for fiberglass panel roofing. I pushed them in place (and added the masking tape) to hold everything together while the epoxy cures.

I'll cut squares of foam, friction-fit, to divide each long section into smaller ones. No glue for those, I want to be able to move them at will. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I finally finished the NAR Member Guidebook. Though kind of a hodge podge, every newbie should read it through at least once. It has loads of good info on numerous topics, especially on safety and NAR insurance.

Does anyone know the age of the article entitled "S4 2016: Student Science Satellites for the Internet of Things?" It talks about the "S42016," which I assume refers to the year 2016, but I couldn't find much else online and I didn't see any links in the article. Has a lot of this work maybe transferred over to the SonarQube or PocketQube projects?

Yes indeed Doug I am going to paint them, probably the Rusto Red (Rustoleum Professional Banner Red iirc) most pads I build are painted or HiVis yellow. I like the brighter colors as they show paint damage better and I can get them re-painted before they really start to rust. The pad will have to wait several months till warmer weather but they shouldn't rust here in Eastern Washington between now and then (or at least not much).

Yesterday I took my 8 year old grandson out for his first rocket launches! He was pumped. He got real good at engine prep, hooking up the micro clips (after checking to make sure the interlock key was out), launching and recovery! We flew the Big Bertha, Baby Bertha and an Alpha....

Did fillets on my 3" Arapahoe-I that I started 2 or 3 years ago, and made new fins for my Rabid Weasel (Min Diameter blue tube Loc Weasel clone) which suffered a I59 CATO last May, just need a section of 38mm Blue Tube to replace the fin section and it will be ready to fly again.

Did you use hot glue? I likewise am finding mine breaking apart at the glue seams. Considering using foam safe CA for a more permanent bond.

Yes, I'm using a lot of hot glue. We usually follow that by adding tape around each joint as well, although that is probably more about color than joint strength.
