The motorcato.org site has been collecting motor failure reports for years. Recently, we updated the site to be more functional:
  • mobile phone friendly (responsive)
  • more specific report submission form
  • ability to view latest reports and search for any reports
Note that you still have to be cautious about using the data. This site collects failure reports, but that isn't the whole story in terms of whether or not a motor is likely to fail. The motors that are flown most often are likely also the ones that will have the most failures. Without data on how many of each motor have been flown, we can only report anecdotes, not failure rates.

The front page of the site looks similar to the old one, but try out the menu items at the top particularly "latest" and "search" to view reports.

Very nice John. I easily found my submissions, and also noticed that I missed a couple over the years. Good stuff.

That’s very cool. I searched for the E12. Im not sure if that truly reflects actual failure rates or just reported failures, but 2019 shows a major uptick:

That’s to be expected. The E9 was discontinued this past year. The E12 is likely picking up the slack in sales. More E12s being bought => more number of E12 CATOs => more number of reported E12 CATOS. There’s not enough to say here that E12s are more likely to CATO.

I think looking at E9+E12 reported CATOs over the past two years may be more useful.
